Dark red; ripe blackcurrant, slightly smoked; nice round gentle attack - to begin with a bit flat in the middle, but with air (and temperature - it was served at 13C to begin with) it opens up more, a full and lengthy aftertaste with a final extra touch of blackcurrants; really nice and at peaking maturity I believe

Straight forward Rioja, on it’s way down. Pleasant enough, but not interesting.

From magnum. Decent nose, a bit musty at first then cleaned up, smoky red cherry fruit, and nice soft earthy red fruit and spice flavours and a light dry finish.

Rognebær , solbær, rund frukt , fin vin , men faller gjennom til mat. Svakt moden.

It's probably blasphemy to say this, but I do find Riojas a tad similar to Australian Shiraz. For me it's too syrupy, chocolate dominant and unsophisticated. Fine, but not ny style.

Slightly creamy sour red fruits; tangy fruit and acidity, fairly glides yet some gritty tannins pick up from mid-palate. Not complex, bit disappointing in that there's no wildness to the nose but it's nevertheless pleasant, but not overblown, enjoyable enough and OK for the money.

There's obviously a difference in price between a Crianza and a Riserva. But it definitely paid off. More wine for the buck this time. Dark ruby, thin watery rim. Fruity to the nose, vaguely dill. Vanilla. Medium acidity, higher tannins than expected. Compact on the attack. Dark fruit, some dill, vanilla to the palate. Long, fruity and tannic finish. (#584)

This wine is drinking beautifully right now. The fruit is a bit muted but still present and balanced with tannin and mild acidity. The flavors have melded into a moderately complex wine. Paired well with an olive-stuffed flank steak and parmesan polenta.

Clear, deep red. Light, fruity aroma. Delicious cherry, strawberry, vanilla flavours. Spice is gone leaving simply smooth, fruity deliciousness. I would drink this up in the next year or two.

2 years after my last tasting this is my 3rd bottle. This bottle tasted at its peak and seemed to start getting a bit thiner. Dark garnet. Spice, ginger, plum and some smoke aroma. Classic aged Rioja flavours of plum, black cherry and tobacco. Medium finish.

Dark ruby. Round and juicy with no hard edges and limited tannins at this point. Cherry, smoke, moss, and red plum. Nice weight and texture. A drying finish with a touch of fruit sweetness. More campfire than crystal.

Perfect bottle. Very good Rioja I must say. Carmine red. Nice bouquet, dark cherries, plum, chocolate, leather, herbs, dill, mocca, oak. Good taste, the body is medium plus, nice balance, ok acidity, quite soft tannins. Good mouthfill. Not very long finish, but good flavours.

Dark cherry, grape, and plum aromas. Red raspberry as it opens up in the glass. Red raspberry. Mineral and herb tucked in there. Earth and licorice. Lots of dried flower notes up front on the palate. While only med /- tannin, lots of extract felt with the texture on the palate. Lots of dried flower and potpourri. Hints of cinnamon. Not completely unlike Cab franc or Cru Beaujolais. Dynamite on the palate, with a focused fruit and wild complexity. Given …

The '04 Valdemar Reserva is 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo. Decanted 90 mins. Deep ox-blood color. Medium+ body. Medium acidity. Sweet, medium+ finish. Dominant aroma: dried cherries! The larger palate displays blackberries, raspberries, herbs and tobacco, with mint and spice on the finish. Oh, and an interesting, subtle, lower mid-palate, green-apple note (malic acid?). 13.5% abv. QPR.

Very vegetal, but with some polish on the midpalate. Certainly an improvement over the rest of the range, which I've always found distinctly sub-par. This is still not entirely convincing and a little disjointed, but there's also a lot to like.
