Rather short, suspicious looking cork. Not really what I would have expected in a bottle of Barolo from a good producer. I can now recommend standing up this bottle for a week prior to serving. Substantial sediment, slow settling. Quite pale and evolved hue, but with Nebbiolo that's to be expected. Intense, well defined aromas on the evolved fruit, spice and earthy side. Very nice texture with just enough tannin to hold everything together. Long, pleasant finish. Near the end …

Drinking at its peak. Great nose of tertiary flavors as well as dark cherry, raspberry and some hints of rose petal. Palate had more of everything, especially the fruits. Tannins are fully integrated with a med+ body and med acidity. Full long finish.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume IX (Chicago, IL) : In contrast to the other three 1974s, this was a very murky bottle of wine, with a nose that showed, well, nothing. The palate was a bit of a different story, as there was quite a bit of darker, black fruit in a plummy character.

The nose was not so exciting, but the palate showed great. For a higher rating, though, this would have needed more complexity and a better, cleaner nose. Certainly, at it’s peak, this is one to drink up. TN: The nose is a bit muddy with some soy notes. But the palate is much better. Melted tannins, bright but round acidity and a beautiful aroma composition with red fruit, herbs, minerality, tar, roses. The whole Barolo range and all delivered in …

Tasted blind as part of a small Sangiovese vs Nebbiolo event. Mature and advanced bouquet, marginally beef juicy initially even. But having given this a bit of space to breath, this dissipated leaving you with nice fresh herbs, fine cedar wood notes, spice and rose water, tar, tobacco and barnyard notes and defined red berry fruit core. The palate was also mature and well-developed, but manages to perfectly marry juicy freshness with advanced, settled aromas. The tannins have molten away …

- tasted blind - Is red fruity, iodic, rose hips, herbs, more and more ripe red fruit. - On the palate it is lean, puristic and traditional, very much rosehip and rosewater, flint. Not totally explosive on the nose, but very nice drinking. - Extremely aged and silky texture, tannins are still there but nicely melted and jucy and acidity is still very present. The finish is long und in this puristic style just as it should be. But unfortunately …

nice and elegant, fresh, herbs, sous bois, you can fell that this stuff is aged but it does not disturb the nose… red fruited. fruit rather on the background though, tertiary aromas dominate the nose. very enjoyable right now. no wood, no bullshit, honest, raw and precise. it seemed to be that the nose was lacking a bit of tension over time. others on the table did not have this impression tho. on the palate this wine has still a …

Tasted blimd. This is as good as it gets. Rose petals and cherry nose. Light on its feet with super fine tannins. Sweet core of fruit, elegant and with a lovely acidity. Surprisingly young tasting and delicious.

Perfectly mature. Opened 5 hours before. A quick decant, and the back in the bottle to slow ox until serving. The nose was quite well developed, but still fresh. Dried flowers, earthy, Mushroom, dark cherries, leather and dusty red fruit. On the palate it had velvety soft tannins that just coats the entire mouth. Sour cherries, tobacco, wood and earthy tones in complete harmony. Long lingering finish. This is at peak, or maybe even a year or two over. Enjoy …

- Was opened for 5 hours in the bottle, without decanting. - Nose: Wow, the Granbussia is full on with earthy notes, mushrooms, plus red fruits of figs, plums and more herbaceous notes, white pepper and caramel. An incredible freshness, depth and variety, you could spend hours with it! - Palate: What comes to mind here? Is just totally mega awesome, wonderful drinkability (acidity medium +) and freshness with earthy and slightly mushroomy character. Medium + tannins that are velvety …

open in bottle for 5h, after that decanted for 1 more hour. expressive and deeply layered nose with predominately herbs and darkish-red fruits. cinnamon and leather. rustical. compared to the Cicala 10 we had side-by-side this 97 Gran Bussia seemed much less extracted and already smoothened out. tannins grippy. could keep it for another decade at least, imo not at the peak yet.

Lives up to the billing. Nose of red cherry, flowers, mixed with mushroom, earth complexity. Smell this for days. Palate was medium weight, high acidity. Good stuff here and a treat to try.

Good times in Seattle (The Butcher's Table, Seattle WA) : Nose: ……….And we have lift off! I almost cried tears of joy realizing this was a sound bottle after an off one in May. The nose is enveloping, but in a way that completely draws you in slowly with deep tones of Black tea, sour red cherries, raspberries, earth, truffles, licorice, all sorts of wild spices, roasted herbs, violets, dried roses, juniper berries, tobacco, and leather. Taste: The feel is …

This was good, but certainly no fireworks! As it was, it had a nice nose, it was clear and proper in color, but it was a tad volatile and spiky. I got pretty Barolo fertilizer, deep red cherry some brick perceptions. I was hoping with air it would settle and become great as it was it was good! Would love to get a perfect one of these.

This is how a big Cru Barolo should be with "a few years" of aging. In a perfect window now. Ultra complex nose, licorice, weed, herbs, dust, earth, salmiak, smoke, roses, tar, spice box, cedar wood, cigar box, tobacco, orange peel, leather, furniture polish, mushrooms, wet forest floor, red cherries and truffles. Taste of roses, tar, sweet licorice, cherries, truffles and crazy delicious sunripe and sweet raspberries. Round, velvety and floral, perfectly balanced with no rough edges and incredible length …

Youthful and acidic out of the bottle, took 30 minutes before it really opened up, after which it was juicy and delicious. I’d recommend a 1-2 hour decant at least when opening today, but this has a long life ahead of it.

Stunning wine ! Best nebbiolo ever for me ! Needed 5 h of decanting. Changed every 20 sec in the glass. Tar, roses, licorice, dark berries. After a while herbal notes , huge freshness that lifts it up. Superbalance between big middle show and the long finish with noticable acid. This will last for even another 30 years. Loved it

1989 Piedmont Retrospective (Cinghiale, Baltimore) : Expressive nose displaying concentrated red and black fruit, black cherry, strawberry jam, licorice, mint, caramel, leather and limestone. Excellent concentration, generous amount of concentrated black fruit, dense yet silky, bright acidity, strong earthy mineral, still noticeable yet non obtrusive tannins and a long sweet black fruit driven finish. This is a big scale wine that will drinking beautifully for a couple more decades.

1989 Nebbiolo at Cinghiale (Cinghiale, Baltimore) : '89 Nebbiolo at Cinghiale Deep and darker fruited. Great perfume. Roses, tar, some ferrous notes. Rich and dense yet with sap and great lift. A structured, powerful wine, full bodied and carrying it very well. It is more muscular than most of the wines tonight, yet maintains harmony. Finishes long and dark with more ferrous, balsamic and savory on the back end. Impressive and still somewhat youthful.

Opened for my wife's relatives for dinner. This was a wine non-serious wine drinkers wanted a third glass of. Fantastic Barolo. We didn't have time to decant much, I poured everyone a small glass and the rest went into the decanter. Initially a bit tannic, it smoothed out substantially in a couple hours. I planned to hold out all night to see how it evolved and leave some for tomorrow but it was just too good. My glass was stolen …

At Magdalena Double decanted earlier in the day great lift on the nose, with both fruit and savory notes that are at a level not yet reached this night. Iron, more violets than roses, and expansive palate, broad and harmonious, powerful and youthful. It seems to combine the best parts of the contrasting Cicala and Colonello and achieve a greater whole. Great wine. 96

Our last of a 6 pack. 93 once again and very consistent. This wine is now drinking at peak we believe and glad to have kept our last bottle till now ( First drunk in 2011). The fruit is very much present albeit mellow, not pronounced, light earthy notes, lively and with good life in it. It will definitely last quite a bit more but just a joy now.

I really liked this, a 'Burgundian' Barolo. Time has been kind as 5 years ago my notes said that the acid is overwhelming. Tonight, not the case. Very nice balance. Color is a translucent red, more 'rose petal' than 'forest floor', acid and tannin nicely in balance with the fruit. Some secondary development, a very tasty bottle. Went great with both the white truffle risotto and the fettuccine with white truffles.

GRANBUSSIA. Consumed with rack of lamb, cranberry stuffing, french green beans… The wine was certainly very different than any other I've had, and in a good way! Some might say it is Burgundian style, others rustic. For me it was quite pleasant to enjoy it! Light red that did have plenty of character, a bit of time, a hit on spice, plenty of savory caramel on the finish, soft tart fruit filled the body. Nose was wonderful! Very rustic as …
