Very reticent nose, even warm, nutty notes and lemon pith. Good line of acidity and fine bead. Linear and shallow, green citrus and cashew. Disappointing

Darker color, showing its age. Bigger bubbles, enjoyable and glad to consume it now. DRINK

Consumed before and after dinner in Lehmann Jamesse Prestige stems. Enjoyable. Excellent nose, almond croissant, a little savory element in the mid-palate. At first clipped finish with some bitter citrus pith, but that opened out with air. On the rich side, perhaps slightly more dose than would have been perfect which made it a touch clunky. A bit lacking in grip and depth, likely due to the vintage, but really a nice drink. Interested to see what the '12 is …

Grower Bubbly Event #2 : I tasted this towards the end of the event. I didn't get any of the bottle info as it went home with the owner. What I recalled was. marriage between some richness and yet some nice elegance in the wine.

Another year around the sun-Birthday #42 (Daisies and Pops for Champagne-Chicago, IL) : The nose is upfront and richer with tones of brioche, red apples, golden grahams, cinnamon spices, quince, pears, and toast notes. Though there is good complexity, it does lack some depth and expression. The Medium bodied feel is well balanced with refreshing, high acidity. This is a good Comtesse, but it really lacks that bit of extra the cuvee normally brings. It could be that it needs …

The Grand Finale: The Last Plum Tasting & Wine Sale (Chicago, IL) : Have become less and less a fan of this vintage in champagne; this wine shows some of the thinner, overly acidic qualities that I tend to associate with the vintage. Slightly yeasty and bready, which helps with the style though.

Nice. Some pear and red apple up front. As it opens, a hint of bitterness - grapefruit rind coming to mind. After a bit some caramel… not quite as rich/yeasty/bready as I’d expect from a wine that spent 11 years on the lees, but quite nice, and takes a little journey after opening rather than remaining linear. For the price though? Eh, I dunno. There are equally worthy journeys at much lower price points out there. May need a few …

Possibly past prime, but the yeasty brioche notes pulled its weight through a meal. Ok on its own but it lacked fruit or much finesse. Much better with food.

Started off rustic and slightly oxidated like bruised apples. Started to doubt provenance of the bottle. The malic acidity also seemed a bit much/over the top. BUT with half an hours worth of air the wine found focus and elegance, everything fell into place. Great concentration in flavour. Long finish. Perfect balance of acidity and ripe sweetness and dosage. Drink now - 2024.

HDH Burgundy Auction; 5/17/2019-5/18/2019 (Chicago, IL) : No. 3649. Disgorged February 2017. Really lovely fruit here -- a bit sweet, but nicely cut with some tart white fruit. The fruit here isn't as ripe, but the acidity is quite bright. Very nice overall intensity, even if the fruit isn't as brilliant.

Youthful nose. Very fruity and pure. Still a bit shy. Yellow apple, citrus and passionfruit. Good depth. Youthful, medium body, harmonius and fresh. Elegant with some creaminess. Yellow apple, citrus and hints of tropical fruit. Good grip and finish. Not complex yet, but give it 5 years, so.

Paul Bara Dinner (La Bocca, Stockholm) : (100% Pinot noir) Nose showing butterscotch and physalis in a youthful way and opening up with a hint of cinnamon and tropical fruit. Palate is showing a lovely creaminess and acidity that almost hides the yellow plum fruit. Long and lengthy finish that lasts a long time. Already accesible and available and elegant as always. But with the intensity so typical for the Comtesse Marie de France that will allow it to evolve …

Roasted nuts and strong mineral notes with some tobacco and bruised granny smith apples. Still very restrain On the palate mineral, pure, restrain, focus and with such a strong backbone. Wine build to last very long. One of the best 2000 Champagne I have tried.

A bit of everything : By the colour it was evident, that it was a BdN and probably with some age. Intense nose of red apples, roasted notes, oaky, concentrated and full, even rich taste. Archetypical BnN style. To me it seemed too plush and imprecise though.

Says 2013 on cork - disgorgement date? Dark golden pinot noir. Nose has yeasty notes of autolysis and sweet rasberry jam, Palate is INTENSE - well balanced with sharp acidity but with the dosage to level it out. Creamy texture in mouth but at the same time sizzling acidity. Drink now or save a few years.

This took some time to open up and has plenty of life in it to last many a year to come. Fine bead, nice acidity. Beautiful example of Bouzy Pinot Noir, powerful but complex with a very long finish. Went well with Sizzling Tiger Prawns.

Dinner at Palena (Palena - Washington, DC) : The aromatics on this wine were really neat. One minute orange blossom and slate dominated the nose a minute later you'd be greeted with peach and yeast. The lushness of the nose was in juxtapose with its palate that was firm, minerally, and herbal. It had nice fruit, too, with drops of white peach and pear. Will be a fascinating wine to see age...

Golden yellow. Rich green fruit nose with notes of green currant, gooseberries, cucumber peel, lime zest and green apple as well as slight grassiness, honey and vanilla. Dry and rich palate with cutting acidity and smooth lively moussé that goes from creamy and buttery to bitter and tart giving ripe citrus notes and some nutty nuances. Long refreshing finish. Seemingly young and a bit hard to relate to, but seems to have a lot of personality. Nice. Enjoyed as an …
