Mature CDP, maybe starting a slow downhill. Dark purple fruits up front with hints of pepper, oak and leather. More of same on palate. Very balanced tho the 14.5 alcohol still pokes its head out on the back of the palate. Nice solid CDP but drink up!

balanced and sweet spot - cooked red fruits / berries - bit musky. Enjoyable CPD but not overly lengthy. Nice drinking drop

A super accompaniment to grilled pizza on a stormy Memorial Day evening. Cork was in perfect condition. Full bodied and similar to bottles drunk over the last three years, with blackberry/dark fruits, pepper, and a hint of licorice.

1999 vintage

Soft and rounded, prunes and figs, chestnuts, garrigue, pepper, nutmeg and a touch of barnyard. Bit of alcohol in the long and balanced finish. A big friendly giant, completely mature now or approaching the end of its drinking plateau, if you will.

2001 vintage

Oaked CDP?!? Sacrilege?!? In reality this has aged shocking well. Deep, dark, tobacco, a bit of smoke, and then grilled plum, black pepper and intense spice. It is dark, concentrated and definitely a bit influenced. Yet it is also delicious and screams of CDP. Not my preferred style. But also a serious wine.

Still drinking beautifully - this CdP has no sharp edges and is dynamite with dinner of chicken with peppers and cream sauce. Dark fruit, blackberries, licorice, tea, and spices.

Past its prime and drinking rather unwell. Quite awful actually, no fruit, no leather, no secondary or tertiary character. Not sure I'd even use it for cooking. Disappointing. Drink up and hopefully your bottle will show some semblance of the southern Rhone.

Stored in a cold cellar since release. Found at the back of cellar an orphan! Still dense and dark. The grenache has not aged that well. Tastes like a dry vintage port! Drink as soon as possible.

Opened for a special gathering of the river masters. Purchases and stored perfectly in the cellar since 2002. Cork was impeccable. A beautiful nose of florals, amaretto, licorice, cherries and clean bright reds. Smooth velvet that opened beautifully over 2 hours. Lush round reds, featuring cherry, vanilla, and terrior. Excellent.

Not decanted. Heavily sedimented. The cork came out in one piece, albeit reluctantly. Brick red color. Drinking very well at 21 years old. An earthy wine with notes of tar, leather and black currant. Medium to full bodied. I previously had the 1999 and 2000 and this was better than either of them. 96 points

Final bottle of five and first bottle in almost 4 years. The cork was pristine - tightly seated with no seepage up the cork neck. Heavy bricking. No decant given the age. First pour offered little in terms of aromatics. The aromas that do poke through include dusty old clothing, prunes, and figs. There is a mid palate bitterness which distracts from the wine. Settles down with time, but does not resolve. Drinkable but poured the remainder down the drain. 1/21/23: Opened another bottle and completely different wine. Must be bottle variability. This bottle is awesome with superb balance, earthy notes.

A beautiful Chateauneuf drinking at its peak Strawberries, leather, clove and cinnamon on the nose with just a hint of gaminess on the nose There is spiciness, wild game, and lots of brambly red fruits on the palate. There is still some tannin. There is great balance and a long finish

Vinetasters: 2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape et al. (Skokie, IL) : Served double blind. Tart strawberry on the nose. Palate that is drying out as well. Some coconutty oak on the finish but with lots of chewy tannin still. Thinning out and just boring and acidic. My 5th, group's 4th.

Beautiful CdP! Just as great as the bottle drunk 2-1/2 months ago. Full bodied, with fine length and concentration of black raspberry, black cherry, and pepper. Went perfectly with mushroom pizza. The final glass the next day, with a lunchtime turkey and spinach sandwich, showed no decline, the fruit just as tasty but the finish was a bit softer.

Loved this. Bought at auction. Nice high fill and cork was perfect. Deep and dark. Perhaps a hint of bricking at the edges? Dark fruits with some rosemary, pepper. and a good dose of tingly spice. Very long finish. Superb with grilled chicken. Hazy dark brick-red in color. Dark red berries, licorice, garrigue, damp earth and hint of tobacco/cedar on the the oh so lightly corked nose. Rich, grippy and ripe in the mouth showing roasted red fruits and licorice, crushed herbs, graphite, medium (-) acidity, hint of tannins and a medium finish. Something was slightly off with this bottle.

After a few hours in a decanter, it has a youthful fresh and intense nose with deep layers of dark berries. Beautifully balanced, this is a big rich wine with lots of flavour, lovely freshness and length. Actually feels like it's too young to drink, but it is delicious. I'm starting to regret sharing my case with a friend...

Poured with a nice dark coloring with no bricking on rim. Lots of blackberry followed by hints of plum, pepper and some earthiness. Tannins have dropped off leaving a very smooth, easy drinking wine. Delicious and around its peak!

Fantastic. Pop and pour. Started out surprisingly restrained with a hint of bitterness. A bit of salty food revealed cassis, metallic notes, and meat. Continued to develop over 2 hours. Beautiful nose. This well stored bottle did not hint at its age. Lots of life left. Should have decanted the sediment.

Drank this bottle with no decant at The Oven (east) with mulligatawny soup, garlic naan, and malai kofta. This is a great CDP at the apex of its window, probably with a few prime years left. Still a youngster. Dark red cherry and prune notes with savoury notes. Tannins notable on the palate but well supported by fruit intensity. The nose keep coming back to support the palate with just a touch of secondary flavour notes. Leads to a moderately long and balanced finish.

From magnum. Cork was soft. Drank great upon opening and became more balanced after an hour. Medium weight with plenty of character.

This has improved a bit with age. The coloring is more garnet, less purple; The nose included some earthiness, pepper and dark fruit. The tannins have faded nicely leaving a very smooth drinking, mature ChdP.

Bought on initial release and stored in temperature controlled cellar. Did not decant. Reddish-purple with very slight brickish color. Nose and taste are similar in fruit and earthly aspects. Straightforward nose and taste. Medium body and medium length. Drink now. Will fade from here.

From an excellent looking bottle purchased on release, this wine had a very deep red center and light red rims. the medium intensity nose displayed dried black cherries, plums, anise, and a hint of pepper. it also show a bit of distracting wood char. After a bottle in December 2017, I was worried about my remaining bottles. After tonight’s experience my faith is restored in this wine. Allowed to slow ox about 90 minutes. Aromatically pleasing with garrigue, smoke, white pepper, and black fruits. On the palate this presents with energetic acidity, and no tannic grip. After reading AAGRAWAL's note, and not having consumed a bottle in almost 4 years I became alarmed. After tasting, I found a similar experience to AAGRAWAL. Aromatically pleasing with garrigue, some vanilla, plum, and crushed blackberry. On the palate this has really developed fatigue.
