Full of bright red fruit on the nose and still has bright acidity. Ueberroth is always the softer/elegant Zin for me and even after 15 years still has a lighter body and just a hint of age but still primarily red berries and some herbal/tea flavors. Great example of how well Zin can age.

In a wonderful place right now. I drink these too young, but they are so good, it is hard to keep myhands off them. This shows that Zin can age…

Definitely picking up some plum and port notes in its age, but otherwise I stand by my initial assessment: As other reviewers have pointed out, this is zin that's closer to claret, hearty and teeth-staining and complex.

Turley Zin from Paso Robles. Great if you let it age!

Holding up very well with plenty of fruit. First taster noted that it was slightly frissant but that quickly went away. Great with barbecue ribs.

16.3% abv. Medium ruby, extremely aromatic. Ripe plum, white pepper, red cherry highlights, some mint on the back end. Some secondary flavors like saddle leather and olive making an appearance and adding a grippy, savory claret note. Excellent depth and length. This very enjoyable wine is handling its extreme alcohol very well. A delicious and very singular wine.

One of the best Turley's. Thick, chewy, lingering finish - not cloying - good balance

This wine is at its peak drinking window. Dark berries, lavender, smoked cinnamon, slight lead pencil. Burnt metal! Tannins are soft and finish last 30+ seconds. The kinda wine you open, decant, give your friends a try and everyone is racing to get a refill ASAP. That good. Highly reco +++

One of the best I've had to date from this label. Balances its sweetness with serious stuffing perfectly. An ST92+ is a pretty high showing for a Cali zin; nicely done Turley.

A bit confusing. I drank this a month ago and got a different impression. This time around while the wine is big, and jammy at some level it kind of works and there are some good things going on. Blackberry jam, smoked meats, spices and minerals. Big boned, showing some complexity, can age for a number of years more.

Decant 30 mins. This wine felt very overdone. The nose is blackberry jam and herbs. The palate is very heavy and jammy with black berry, prunes, tobacco and herbs coming through. Massive but somewhat disjointed structure.

Tannins present but not obtrusive. Not obviously a Zinfandel to me, but no complaints about that. 15.2% alcohol nicely integrated for a Zin. This went well with BLT sandwiches one day and dry-rub pork ribs another.

I had bought a case Turley wines from a friend and as I worked through them over the course of a few years, I have been discovering that I think I like most of them on the younger side. I have since gotten on the mailing list and am pulling the corks immediately without guilt. This was the last bottle of that first case and a lovely exception to my sooner rather than later rule. Purple juice with deep, brooding, …

A friend was grilling rib eyes and roasting potatoes so I wanted something to match. Have been working through the '11s, down to just this one bottle so why not. 2nd of 2 from the cellar, and the weaker showing. The one opened in June did better. Today it was heavier, and a touch pruney. Deep purple/black coloring. Touch sharp on the finish, though that blew off on night two. Not as engaging as 1st bottle, more straightforward black plum, …

Popped and poured, but a bit musty and closed, so let the wine sit in a decanter for a bit over a half hour, then back into the bottle. No sediment. Nose of red fruits and spice. On the palate this wine was all pepper and spice - and other things nice. The predominant fruits were red, but there was some blackberry/boysenberry woven through. The acid was balanced, the tannins were well integrated, and the high alcohol was not apparent. …

1st of 2 bottles. Expressive and interesting. I always look forward to what the Ueberroth will show, and this is a very good Ueb vintage. Boisenberry and bramble on the approach but then some more savory notes reveal themselves. No funk, just deeper aromatics like hint of rosemary. Great bottle, good food wine and good solo sipper. Continues to be my fav of the Turley Zin range.

Jammy and spicy, on the nose and entry. Mid-palate is exactly what you expect from a Turley Zin - black fruit & spices. Soft tannins; definitely drinking well right now.

The is fully mature with the tannins having become quite soft now. Nose of blackberry and spice. The mid palate is full of ripe concentrated red fruit, touched by black pepper and spice. It is lush and sweet, almost to the point of being a little jammy. The wine has decent balance, not much heat is detectable but it lacks the complexity of the best Turleys. I would drink this up.

Always one of my favorite curvees of Turley and this lived up to expectations, although I had to share too much of the bottle with others to be sure. No sign of 2011 as an off vintage here.

Just awful on opening. Frizzy, seemed to have some type of bacterial or other type of contamination going on. Overnight, the frizz reduced some to a tolerable level. Still, the wine seemed overbaked, too ripe with plum and other super-ripe notes. By night three the wine settled down to show heat, blueberry and pepper notes that aren't horrible but also not great. I hope future Fredericks don't show these baked and contamination notes.

Pretty closed on initial open (sadly, didn't decant - clearly should have). After being open in the bottle for a couple of hours, really started opening up. Rich spices, dusty earth and leather, dark brambly berries, sweet tobacco. Mouthfilling and coating - big on the palate but with lovely acidity. Rich ripe fruits balanced with very soft tannins and a long finish. Lovely.

Well done Elegant zin! Love the smooth edges, powerful finish packing a punch of ripe cherries with a touch of spices. Turley continues to make head scratching zin that put them in a different category.
