These 2016s are SO good and ready for prime time ... 30 minutes of decant and this sings ... very classic Brunello, sour cherry, red berry fruits dominate. Col d'Orcia Poggio al Vento Riserva 2015 En hærlig vin. Luftet 1-2 timer. Klar Ruby. Kompleks og elegant på nesen med modne mørke bær, tørkede urter og hint av lær. Stram og presis i munnen, mørke bær, kirsebær, lær, anis. Silkemyke tanniner og lag på lag av smaker som sitter lenge. Lang og intens avslutning, fortsatt med godt lagringspotensial - en moden Brunello med både kraft og finesse. Koster litt men likevel ...nydelig !

Tasted blind. Very ripe, lifted alcohol. Lots of acidity, fruit compote concentration, but also some bitterness. This felt overdone, quite disappointing to see the label.

This is a tremendous wine. It's brooding and dark but just so easy to ingest aromatically. Contiuning with the nose ..... the wine is cherry laden with sweet aromatics and a bit of bay leaf dryness. In mouth the dryness continues but then...... out jumps an underbrush of mushroom and spice. I go back to the nose where this wine really excels. The aromatics are a 95 while the wine, in mouth, is a 93.

First two of four bottles I bought recently. Both bottles and corks are in perfect condition. Medium to dark garnet colour, some sediment. Roasted red berries, fresh and dried cherry, cassis, dark chocolate, cedar, tobacco, earth, intense spice, and cinnamon, with lively acidity, partly resolved tannin, and very good length. From magnum. Very drying tannins at first accompanied by some brett. Got better with air and was much more drinkable on day 2. That said, I don't see the point of putting money in such a wine at this stage in its life.

Vibrant fruit, almost youthful, but the age shows while it lingers. And lingers. Great buy. May have an upside, but I believe I will consume my other bottle shortly.

The brett is the first thing you smell. It's not crazy overwhelming, but it is there and it just soils the wine, in part because it doesn't have exciting fruit that makes up for what amounts to flawed winemaking. Drinkable, but life is too short for this Shame.

Tasted at Benvenuto Brunello in NYC. Medium translucent garnet. Nose is quite floral and sour cherry dominated. Good structure of both acidity and tannin here, age-worthy and less soft than many of the 2015’s which seem to be more ripe and lower in acidity. On the palate slightly tart cherry and a long finish. Attractive wine with upside potential.

Tasted blind next to the Caparzo Riserva. Nice barnyard nose, silky but a bit alcoholic. Dark berries, old leather, very fine leather.

Medium ruby in colour. Pronounced nose intensity with notes of cassis, spices, cedar, toast, vanilla, sweet black plum, black fruits. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin.

1997 vintage

A wine of exceptional value. Although 20 years old, feels as if it has much more life in it, even if the fruit flavours have subsided it is still fresh and lively. Perfect!

Terrific showing. Lovely sweet fruits, fully mature and complete. Went great with Grilled Rack of Lamb and Couscous.

1997 vintage

Medium garnet with reflections of red. From a late-released bottle, this was a touch tight offering a classic but coiled nose redolent of ripe and dried red fruits, marjoram, mustard seed, charcoal and black walnuts. Medium bodied on the palate with medium+ acidity and tight, drying tannins. Honestly, depending on the provenance of your bottle, I might be inclined to give this another five years.

We enjoyed at Ad Hoc Rome. Pnp. A wonderfully aged Sangiovese. Still has good concentration, Cherry mixed with some secondary flavor, tobacco, oak and even some slight barnyard. In a really good place.

Second Sunday Group: 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Our house) : Courtesy of Marty. Hints of bouillon and worcestshire, this bottle is a bit over the hill. Better on the palate, with nice cherry fruit and sandalwood notes. Would love to get a taste of a representative bottle as this should have been outstanding.

I've never been the biggest fan of this estate's tyle and although this bottle was good at one point, there wasn't anything here to change my mind overall. Big and tannic off the bat. the sweet spot hit about 45 mins after opening. It was resolved with some bricking at that point. All the fruit then disappeared and by 1.5 / 2 hours in it was a bit of a shell. Hard to score.

This was an impressive young bruiser. The nose came bursting out of the glass, and it was big, but not heavy. At 19 years this was not a baby, but still very youthful. I can imagine it going strong for a couple of decades still.

Naso solo parzialmente terziario, frutti rossi, viola, tabacco, cuoio, una impressione di liquirizia assieme ad una nota decisamente balsamica. Un naso che oggi è più elegante che potente, preciso e quasi croccante, ma non molto intenso. Al palato si conferma elegante e ben equilibrato, con tannini di cui si avverte una residua minima rigidità, e finale che si distende bene in ampiezza e lunghezza. Ancora in un buon momento, ma non credo abbia ancora molta vita davanti.
