Bermejos, Lanzarote, Malvasia Seco

Coming off its peak but still good notes of honeysuckle and minerals. Will seek out new vintages.

I've enjoyed this wine tremendously. First of all, it is produced from one of the four noble grapes of Madeira and the Canary Islands. (That, in itself is exciting.) An nice wine, which for the money is, worth seeking out. Medium flavors. Not too dry, but not sweet. It was fun mentioning where the wine was from. Not an ager, so look for the '16 or '17.

90/91. This got better and better and better as it opened. Saline golden apples with the barest hint of something tropical-er.

- Yellow gold color with fast forming legs and aromas of lemon, peach, melon and honey. It's balanced and has flavours of peach and lemon with a light body. Bright texture with a long finish.

TASTE: honeysuckle, lemon zest, grapefruit and stones. Went well with al pastor tacos.

Know this wine from my former visits to the Canary islands in winter time, now labeled as Malvasia volcanica seco from the deep black vulcanic soil of Lanzarote, subdued spicy nose with white flowers, need to warm up to show its aromas, smoky, peppery, good weight and balance on the palate, ending persistent with intense spice, very young though, bottle evolves with air, I recommend to decant it or let it blossom in the glass, drink now and over the …

Flowers and yellow fruit. A little fatness, but with good balance from acidity and minerality. Very nice.

Complex with intense minerality, partially overcoming the innate spiciness of the Malvasia grape; clearly the alluvial volcanic nature comes through, a prime example of terroir.

This was wonderful with oysters at Cassia.

I think the name of the wine was Malvasia Volcanica Seco Lanzarote. Good and very surprising wine from Canary Islands... Light color, very mineral nose, good acidity, almost "flinty" and reminding Sancerre wines, medium plus long finish. Wow...
