Wonderfully fresh (ex-chateau), underrated vintage. Maybe because it was in superb condition. Long finish, very pleasant to drink with beautiful structure.

Could this be a candidate for perfection with more aging? Why not? There is so much to like here; it is hard not to be captivated by its intensity, purity, depth, opulence, and velvet-textured tannins. The non-stop layers of perfectly ripe, black plums and cherries with loads of chocolate to finish, let you know, this is a very special wine. Drink from 2026-2060.

Strange nose that finally integrated with the palate in the last hour of the four hours, we had the bottle open. Layered, wonderfully complex and glossy, Coffee, dark fruit, crème brûlée and floral notes. Spherical mouth feel with a nuanced finish. I would have scored this much higher if the nose had been more harmonious.

several TNs from recent yrs seem to be from larger formats, so i was only cautiously optimistic opening this 750… cork removed with care, some of it coming apart upon extraction but thankfully none of it into the wine. fully mature, almost entirely on the savoury end of the spectrum, both nose and palate. slightly plummy, v earthy, some mineral, brine, a hint of sweetness, finishing a touch salty. texture is delicate and silky. a rare treat best to enjoy …

Hello everyone, I'm really starting to retire now. And even if I occasionally rate a wine, it will only be a re-tasted wine from my cellar, tasted at friends' houses, or at one or two former clients'. But no more primeurs or other new wines. For the occasion, I wanted to share with you my "ultimate" list of the greatest emotions of my life, which I strongly recommend you buy, at least one bottle, for your son's 20th birthday or …

In magnum format. It certainly showed its class and regalness but the palate lacked energy and complexity. Good for a 75 Bordeaux but disappointing for a Petrus.

Opened at Whale. Bonus round - opened, decanted and enjoyed. Half of the bottle was kept for the next day. Ex-Chateau. Felt like some Bordeaux after the preceding Burgundy dominated line-up, and despite this not being the best Pétrus vintage, this was performing excellently. Not tired at all and probably marginally better than the '97 enjoyed a few nights before, though this was still a clear step down from the '93. I remember actually expecting this to be a bit …

Clearly, not as good as the previous bottle. Better on the palate, with its round, earthy, truffle-laden, chocolate, and plum core of fruits, than on its discreet perfume, which displayed its earthy, truffle character with just a hint of red plums, and cocoa. Every bottle at this age is unique, with some bottles showing much better than others. That being said, this is not a wine to hold for further development. Drink from 2025-2030.

Dried flowers, violets, black and blue fruits, Asian spices, truffle, smoke, and licorice permeate the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is seductive, sensuous, long, rich, and sexy. The purity of the fruit is striking, with its perfect balance of power and elegance. Once the fruit touches your palate, the wine unfolds in all four directions, with increasing warmth and intensity. The finish, which crosses the 60-second mark with ease, leaves you with layers of truffle-accented black cherries, plums, …

The bouquet is refine, balanced and extended with a touch of toasted oak. So alive and energetic. Palate has some earth, crushed rocks and old spices with overtones of stewed tomatoes and plums. Medium-bodied structure. Some mint emerged after some time. Texture is polished and fresh at the same time. The finish is long and layered. At its peak now and for the next 5 years.

18x Mature Bordeaux Legends (+2x Napa) : Tasting five mature Pétrus magnums in one sitting sets high expectations, especially when most bottles come from legendary vintages. In the end, it was a mixed performance, as it often is with Pétrus for me — a few truly great, transcendent wines marked by intoxicating fruit and deep umami, alongside others that fell short. A story yet to be written. Still a baby from what is a very underrated vintage. Outshone the 07 and 12 by quite some margin at this stage. Sure, it is slightly tight, brooding and slightly muted but what potential. Rich, ripe dark fruits with some earthy and truffle notes. Certainly, some floral when stirred. Linear, long, and grainy to fine tannin, it has the potential to go a long way. Lovely mineral and chalky finish and so balanced. Very …

2025 Richter All-Magnum Extravaganza (Zunfthaus zur Waag Zürich) : A great magnum. The whole room erupted with cheers over this wine and it was praised as fantastic. Somehow I didn't really have that same experience. A great wine by all means, but was it the winner of the night as it was for so many? Not for me. 2025 Richter All-Magnum Extravaganza (Zunfthaus zur Waag Zürich) : From magnum. Extreme difference between the fantastic nose - that I would rate 98 - and the disappointing palate - that I would probably rate in the mid-to-high 80s. Intense red berries and blue fruit in the nose, beautiful sweetness and even feels young. On the palate it is fairly lean with an acidity that is not perfectly integrated and therefore feels a bit disjointed.

End of year tasting with a mixed group of wine lovers. : From magnum. Birth year wine of one of the participants. Beautiful and rustic bouquet with mushrooms and autumn forest. On the palate dark berries and juicy acidity. Quite mature, but still quite powerful. Classical with licorice and graphite. Very beautiful, earthy and classical wine. (FYI this is a fully blind tasting note and I was flabbergasted this was a 1987. The magnum size helped a lot I suppose.)

First time tasting Petrus and was very excited. Bottle in pristine condition from a great cellar with 60 minute decant. Nose was not particularly expressive and while there was nothing not to like here on the palate, it just wasn’t particularly memorable. Pleasant cedar, cherry, red berry notes and not a hard edge on it. Was surprised how few tannins remained after reading a lot about this vintage. In the hallowed halls of oenological mastery, few wines command the reverence and mystique of the 1955 Pétrus. Yesterday I was lucky to taste a new sample of Petrus and Lafleur Expansive nose, the mouth is not shy either. It's smooth and very concentrated, with loose tannins and hints of coffee and mocha, but a fruit juice side that leaves traces; notes of raspberry with a hint of somesthetic liquorice. There is a presence and an obviousness, the power is tamed and faces great depth. Sensuality with seriousness. Squaring the circle

In the nose, there was an immediate burst of young, fresh button mushrooms – it came through quite strongly, not leaving much room initially for other scents to emerge. Later (around 20 minutes in), other notes did come through, such as tobacco and leather. On the palate, it still had a more than reasonable body and acidity; the note was sweet, reminiscent of cherries. The wine may have had its prime, but it is still very pleasant to drink!
