A few bars in Namba, Osaka : Deep lemon appearance. Primary aromas of apple, pear, lemon peel, blossom, jasmine, white pepper and ginger, stony minerality. Dry, high acid, medium body with evident texture from batonage, medium+ finish and flavour intensity but looking forward to trying the La Rocca too to see if there is an evident step to outstanding.

The 50th anniversary vintage and the first single vineyard white wine of Italy. A warm August and September - this is a young but already attractive Calvarino. 89 now - may improve.

What a bottle! Precise and focused that felt somewhat Alpine while also having the exuberance of the Italian coast. Orchard fruits and citrus aplenty with a wet stone minerality and the clarity you get with brilliant mineral water. Oh and the finish - how it went on and danced on the tongue. Absolutely a joy now but plenty of joy ahead as well. There doesn't seem to be a wrong time to drink these.

Showed much better than when last viewed. Complex stone fruit (peach et al), melon. Rich, long. Surprising complexity for Soave. Quite. few years ahead of it.

A: med lemon with gold notes N: white flowers/jasmine, apricot, touch of green papaya, saline, celery, fresh herbs P: dry, high acidity, med chalky texture, med body, 13% ABV C: very good = balanced ripe fruit and well enveloped acidity, med (+) intensity, med concentration, med (+) finish. Drink now or hold for 5-10 years. Certainly a step up from their entry level but without the concentration of the La Rocca at the top end, really well done Soave.

Bright golden yellow. Tropical whoosh on the nose, peaches, lychees, lemon zest, softened with honey, lush and delicious. Unctuous full opening flavoured wash, warm sweet with acid zip, tingling, luxurious, lovely.

Maybe this was too old since it came off a bit strange. Not much on the nose and the taste had somewhat of off putting pear notes

The Calvarino vineyard was purchased in 1901 and has been sold as single-vineyard expression since 1971, so this is the 50th anniversary of this cuvee and the 120th of being in this family’s estate. Organic. 70% Garganega. 30% Trebbiano di Soave. Aged in glass-lined cement for up to 15 months. The nose is shy at first, but it opens up as it warms up. It starts fruity and floral, but there’s a flinty minerality and some leesy notes. The palate …

A blend of 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano di Soave. Organic viticulture, fermented and aged on the lees in concrete vats at a low temperature for 15 months in the new cellar, bottled 17 January 2023. Medium yellow colour, relatively full for a young wine; needs some oxygen to show its complexity on the nose, wax and honey, peach and pear, toast from the lees ageing, good depth; quite tart acidity on the palate, lemon juice, light to medium body …

Liquid gold. Grippy warm peaches, mineral nose, honeyed and sweetness with background candied lemon acidity. Full luscious wine, perfectly balanced sweetness and acidity, some woody grip in the background, beeswax, pear and ripe apricots. Absolutely delicious, what a lovely rich wine. Day 2, beautiful, it's rich and pure and crystalline as only Italian whites can be. Honey, ripe peaches, apricots, lemon rind and soft resin. Top!

I gave the wine half an hour of air prior to tasting. Attractive medium amber color; honeysuckle nose. Rich and substantial mouthfeel. Nice complexity. Apricot, tangerine, ginger and melon notes predominate. A nice touch of peppery spice tickles the palate. It closes with a lovely long-lasting finish. This wine continues to impress. I believe it has entered its prime drinking window, with several good years ahead of it

Golden greenish hue Nose and palate quite alike. Great concentration with a refreshing crisp acidity and nicely long savoury finish. Complex wine that opens with pear, apricot and white peach to then develop in the mid-finish with more tropical fruit (pineapple), honey and flint.

I had my first taste of this wine a month ago at an LCBO tasting event. Instantly, I knew I had to purchase it. The wine had a delightful aroma of white flowers, melon, grapefruit, and seashells. Upon tasting it, I could detect the flavours of melon, peach, lime, and salt. It tasted like I had swallowed a mouthful of ocean water. The finish was long and satisfying.

Pieropan Masterclass (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street) : A little stone fruit, honey, leesy notes lend a buttery richness, slight sulphur, floral notes, citrus underpin shows a little lemon and grapefruit, lovely nose. Softly engaging with juicy acidity, a sense of freshness, citrus over stone fruit, soft burr tugs at the mid palate and helps carry the fruit flavours very long, balanced, persistent, good.

For the price and the hype, I found it underwhelming. Next day. A similar view. I let it warm to room temperature and it shows a little more flavour but… Acid is still quite high. I will leave the other bottle for maybe 5 years.

Aperto e servito. Naso inizialmente timido, lascia uscire poi sentori di frutta secca e candita. Mela cotogna, datteri, noci e mandorle, scorza d’arancio candita, albicocche nere secche. Al palato denso come si confà ad un recioto, ma con una freschezza che alleggerisce e facilita. Bella lunghezza con ritorni di arancia candita e frutta secca.

APPEARANCE: The colour is between deep gold and pale brown. NOSE: Lots of citrus, with dried orange peal, lime, bergamot and orange blossom honey. Sweet, very ripe peaches and yellow plums. Peach stone, marzipan, hint of almonds. Oily, petroleum. Minerality and a hint of smoke. With time the nose expands and becomes very rich, filling even the empty glass with an intense perfume (91p) On day 2 the nose has become slightly more defined; sharper, fruitier, smokier and with a …

Flowers & lemon, nice and round in the mouth with a delicate complexity, a bit of tartness before a very good finish revealing all of the above. I don't think this wine will improve so I'd drink up while it is still zippy but has a wonderful mellowness.

I concur with Liber's notes from 6/8/2016. I'd add that the wine needs only a slight chill: it tasted better straight from the cellar than after I chilled it, and best after I let it warm up to just below cellar temperature. Drink now or within a few years.

Last of 12, perfect cork and level, previous notes very good to fine on improving trend with greater maturity and this best bottle - yellow tinged green; lovely freshness and purity with a salinity approaching fine Chablis with an added smokey dimension; medium bodied, long , reasonably complex, quite acid but refreshing, still improving! Opened tonight to go with a smoked side of Alaskan sockeye. It is fairly non-aromatic with a richness on the palate reminiscent of Chardonnay and Viognier. However, unlike most examples of those wines, this has plenty of acidity to make it food-friendly. The fruit reminded me of melon and there was no hint of tiredness or oxidation.

Pieropan has been producing Soave Classico since 1860 and this single vineyard wine Calvarino was the first to be produce in 1971. The 2010 is 70% Garganega (gives structure and acidity to the wines) 30% Trebbiano di Soave (gives perfume and richness of flavor) vinified and aged in glass lined cement, with some lees stirring." The palate started out light and simple then fattens up in the mid-palate entirely, showing more ripped fruit flavors with a hint of honey, all …

Dinner with Monthly Group at Forlino's (Forlino's, One Fullerton, Singapore) : A nice, classy Soave, especially at its price point. We had the benefit of drinking this with some beautifully cooked seafood antipasti, and it really shone in the context.
