Mastrojanni, Brunello di Montalcino

Well balanced and enjoyable. Not a hefty or complex wine but it went well with Bolonaise.

lighter in colour, totally transparent. nose is very much of sour cherry up front, lots of earth, wet leaves, and alcohol wafting in the background. palate mimics the colour, lighter in weight, exhibiting more of the sour character, tart red berry, quite mineral, iron, a little salty. it's delicate though, texture silky, and there's a fleeting and curious tinge of sweetness, that creates interest here. decent finish. ...not as good as other vintages to be sure, but would be fun …

Should drink soon. Still had nice, knitted dark fruit flavors, but starting to somewhat diminish versus last bottle we drank. Had some earthiness to complement the fine tannins and fruits. Long finish and delicious mouthfeel; refined.

Will clearly stay at 93 this is my last magnum from the 2008 anniversary wine - this is a great wine such a great balance - can only repeat my rating from august 2022 - you do sense that the fruit is more mature - but the picture is the same happy to stay at very solid 93.

Love me some aged Brunello and this is great after 18 years. Red cherry, strawberry, and plum fruit up front. Mostly has given way to the secondary notes of leather, tobacco, smoked meat, and cracked pepper. Still has some nice acidity and good long finish. No need to wait on this one anymore...all good now.

Italy Honeymoon; 5/17/2023-5/29/2023 (Italy) : A bit harsh, not my favorite. The 2018 vintage served next to it was already more round, fuller. This was a bit astringent and seems like indicative of the vintage. Overall we tasted 5 wines at this - no formal notes on all of them but liked the 2018 Brunello and 2020 Rosso enough to order a case!

Served after a two hour decant. Really nice, WOTN. If I have had more bottles, which I don't, I could drink now with pleasure but also save a couple of years more.

Perfectly aged and knitted. Lovely fruit and soft tannins.

2005 vintage

A clear improvement to my last anniversary magnum - this is much more what I was expecting - a great balance and freshness - lots of fruit - cherries and blackberries - we are also getting chocolate and leather - also spices - we are increasing our rating to a very sold 93 - this was a great wine and what you could expect from an anniversary wine.

I opened this two hours early, but didn't decant. It was still quite tannic, so a full decant might have been better, but it was very tasty regardless. Moderate acidity, high intensity, strong chocolate character, beautiful accompaniment for roast lamb.

Once again a disappointing Brunelli from a supposedly top producer. The main word that comes to mind is acidic, followed by light bodied. It wasn’t plonk but I can think of hundreds of far better bottles for a third of the price. Unfortunately capacity to age is not something that Brunellos are capable of imho. They are for the most part totally overrated and can’t hold a candle to 4th or even 5th Bordeaux growths.

This is a magnum - special edition released in 2018 - It is a nice Brunello - you are getting lots of fruit - it is drinking very nicely - the fruit is cherries and blackberries - the wine has a sense of sweetness - I am also getting some chocolate - tannins and acidity are both medium - balance is fine - being a 10 years anniversary note I had expected more - we are ending on 92.

Tasted after a 5-hour decant. The wine was decently good and varietally correct, but missing depth and bass notes. We paid $60 for this; I think it was worth about half that.

Long Live Brunello 2013 vs 2008 vs 2005 (Zoom!) : Not as heavy as the '05 and the '13 – slightly brighter, redder fruit, and the spice is cinnamon rather than liquorice. No sense of chocolate here either.

Long Live Brunello 2013 vs 2008 vs 2005 (Zoom!) : Again this is quite aromatically mature, but it’s certainly darker and brighter than the Ragnaie. Notes of bee pollen. It’s rich, with coffee, milk chocolate, old rubber and smoked meat. Concentrated, dark plum, raisin, still quite tannic – could benefit from some meaty food.

Perfectly in its drinking window. Smooth, beautiful nose of dried cherry and leather. Well integrated tannins, dried fruit on the palate. Still had good acidity, paired well with pasta & meat sauce.

Wine of the night to me. After 30-45 minutes in decanter, the wine was really good. Had medium to dark garnet color, lasting 30 second finish, medium spice notes, wet leather and light smokiness.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. Pretty awesome bouquet. It smells like blackberry, vanilla, coffee, coconut, oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, figs and meaty. It tastes like plum. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium +. Very good BdM, but a little lighter than expected (in colour and taste). This bottle was fairly lean. Not clear that waiting will make much difference. Drinks well with food right now.

Clear, medium garnet. Clean, pronounced-intensity, developing, meaty/savory nose, with aromas of smoke, tar, charred wood, and sour cherry. Dry on the palate, medium(+) body, medium(+) acid, medium(+) tannin, high alcohol, medium(+) intensity, and a flavor profile to match the nose plus lavender, blackberry, espresso, and dark chocolate. Long finish. Very good, can drink now but will improve, premium price.

I am a fan of the Brunello di Montalcino region but this vineyard is not one of my favorites. Interestingly enough, it's priced (and rated) higher than other vineyards from this region that I like more.

Dense ruby and thick tears. Lively nose: dark fruits, berries, leather and earth. Delicious and dense, layers of flavor. Great, balanced weight to it.

Brunello di Montalcino Focusing on 2007 (SF Wine Trading Company) : Pale with tawny rim. Low pitched, earthy nose full of tobacco leaf. Not at all centered on the fruit. Looser, less intense and less focused than the '07, but still very nice wine, not meager or underripe and best in terms of its supple feel in the mouth. For early consumption.

From magnum and gave it 5 hours in a decanter to allow it to show its best. Very red cherry, still quite high acidity (unsurprisingly), medium body, good length. Pleasant wine for Xmas Day with goose.
