Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru

Deep almost violet color, dark fruit and earth on the nose. Seamless supple Blackberry, mulberry, and slate. Excellent length, tannins are buttery, slight touch of astringency on the finish. Opened and drank after one hour. The last glass was better than the first, smoother yet more potent. Lovely.

Another nice '98 from a string of surprises from that vintage. Deep cherry and spicy flavors, just a hint of classy oak, silky, medium-bodied with moderate supple tanins. A long lingering finish shows the underlying persistence this wine contains. Drinks great now, but will improve with some age.
