Lungarotti, Rubesco Riserva Monticchio, Torgiano Rosso Riserva

This cork was in excellent condition, which made quite a difference. Beautiful aged Rubesco still showing great intensity with plenty of fruit to go along with the tertiary notes. Great mouthfeel and length, confirming the outstanding vintage. Drink over the next 3 - 5 years. These wines age very well.

Dinner at D Cuisine (Chicago, IL) : Not sure if this was just old and cardboard funky or if there was a slight bit of TCA here. Regardless, while there was enough fruit to show proof of life, there's still quite a few angular tannins to work through.

Way past its prime

TCA Cork visibly dried up though it came out in one piece

First of 6 bottles. Good fill level and excellent cork. Remarkable hue for a 42 year old wine; looks more like a 10 year old! The nose speaks of excellent ripeness level with plenty of complexity and intensity: over-ripe fruit, mineral as in volcanic soil, spicy. The balance is exquisite with enough tannin structure to give this wine another 5-10 years, rich texture and good length. Why is this wine not more highly regarded? is it not hip enough?

Garnet red; subdued nose of red cherries, currents,; med body still fruity, tart cherry flavor; med long finish soft tannins- not really different than a 10yr old - this is in a time capsule- what a surprise!

SOM'd in AM. There was fruit and mostly mature notes on opening in the AM. Double decanted 12 hours later and drunk over 3 hours. For all the bottle treatment folks, normally I would have double decanted in AM, but I was running late to work and had to pop it and run. The nose is mature but still with freshness with a mix of moss/ undergrowth earthiness, and a savory cured meat, but still with some fruit. Tobacco, darker …

Still excellent!

Developed nose, fruit, earth/mushroom the palate had potential for the first couple of secs then it hit the cliff, and dropped off but it was just a short finish tasted ok before that

This is a fading lady yet retains a solid core of bright cherry fruit rounded out with nuanced nut, earth, herb and spice notes. Pretty much fully resolved in the mouth the fresh acidity continues to carry this wine. While this could easily be disappointing to many I love it. It is old school, slightly dirty yet light, lithe, and friendly.
