Burgundy While Watching the Final Four (House of Nanda - Chicago IL) : Tasty but not particularly Volnay-like to me. Ripe black fruits that are clearly rich, but faintly drying on finish. Others liked this more

Musicians’ Dinner and Paulée (Hospice de Beaune, Beaune) : Ruby. All astringent green wood tannins. Yuck.

Musique & Vin - Dîner de Gala - XIV Edition (Château du Clos de Vougeot) : From magnum. This wine seems to have shut down hard, certainly from magnum. Similar to the bottle served at the tasting early. It was much more enjoyable when last tasted in 2019.

During a walkabout tasting. From Jero. I dont know what the previous people were tasting when I look at the notes. We drank this and also the 2017 Pommard Clos Epenots during a tasting and Paulee dinner and our table had top wines (RSVs/Chambertins/Clos de s Roche) from top producer. This stood up to it. Very well made with top class aromas, good mid mouth fill and polished tannins. This producer is on the move up after recent changes. Their …

Bright red cherry with medium weight and very good balance. Subtle Volnay perfume to start and savory spice on finish. Good young.

Trip to France; 10/13/2008-10/24/2008 (Burgundy, Rhone Valley (Chateauneuf-du-Pape), Paris) : Very dark in the glass, expressive nose with heavy oak, dark fruits, some mushroom. Palate very firm and structured, but balanced by acidity. Very tannic and oak driven at this point, masking the fruit. Much too young, palate and finish couldn't follow the nose and finish not too interesting. Tannic to the point it wasn't enjoyable now. Try in 5+ years, but unsure how this will progress.
