Lunch at Gantenbein (Fläsch) : Still produced from Swiss clones at this stage. The nose offers gingerbread and bakery notes alongside ripe red fruit. Broader and softer than the 2005, with more immediate generosity. As Martha Gantenbein noted, 2007 was an uncomplicated vintage in the Bündner Herrschaft, quite unlike Burgundy. Attractive but perhaps lacking a little structural grip.

tobacco Nose along with some red fruit. super smooth tannins. medium finish and not really aromatic. nothing to big for a wine with this reputation. definetely way too overpriced. spend ur money on way better pinots ! 92 P, can age at leat 10 more years.

(xiangxiang) red berries, tight focus. Surprising power and concentration, despite light ruby in glass. Ashy bitters, clean, lifted ferrous notes. Gneiss? wet rocks, and pairs nicely with squid!

Having had the 2014 the other day this 2021 rolled in full of charm and youthful elegance. Open in the nose ( a lot more than the 2014 to the point that we thought maybe this is a wine to have younger than older but we have but few data points) , elegant , bright and full of dark fruited and herby charm. During a MOT Gantenbein Masterclass. Martha and Daniel, who single-handedly created the first high quality Swiss Wine of World renown, starting 40 years ago, walked through their Kaizen approach of work, clonal selection, vineyard and Cuvée mgmt. The wines were consistently of high quality. I wish there were more Gantenbeins in the Swiss wine landscape, especially the Romandie. Optischer Eindruck: Klares, mittleres rubinrot mit purpur Reflexen Geruch: Sauber. Mittlere Aromen von roter Kirsche, Himbeer, Eucalyptus, animalisch, Vanille. Erste Reifenoten. Geschmack: Trocken, mittel (+) Säure, Alkohol 14%, wenig, feinstofiges Tannin, mittlerer Körper mit intensiven Aromen wie in der Nase zusätzlich marmeladig. Langer Abgang. Schlussfolgerung: Ausgezeichnete Qualität. Der Wein ist aromatisch komplex, hat eine schöne Länge eine Balance Säure/Körper. Er Kann getrunken werden, hat aber noch Lagerpotential.

Howard Ripley Old World New Wines tasting (Bridewell Hall) : Wowow. Mindblowing nose: hugely pronounced earthy, rocky, smoked and gently spiced Pinot character. Some violet and milk chocolate notes. It's simultaneously powerful and delicate. Extremely balanced on the palate - from the nose you expect a hammer blow but it's subtle and delicate, superb definition. Structurally it's totally balanced. Magnificent.

Bottled unfiltered. 13,2% alcohol. Developed and quite translucent pomegranate red color with a developed mahogany hue. The nose feels savory, developed and nuanced with an attractive bouquet of dried leaves, wizened cranberries, some gunpowder, a little bit of tobacco, light tertiary notes of beef jerky and tar, a perfumed floral hint of violets and a sweet, spicy touch of cigar box. Gantenbein Pinot Noir vertical 2001-2016 (Restaurant Musigny Zurich) : Expressive, wonderful nose of stems, farmyard, wet earth, spices, pepper. On the lighter side but not hollow. Complex and long. Right out of the block Gantenbein nailed it with this wine. Great Pinot indeed. Fully mature.

Gantenbein vertical 2001-16 (Restaurant Musigny, Zurich) : Rather light red fruit but also some ash which in combination makes for an appealing profile. A slight acidity overhang on the palate.

Vertical of 16 vintages of Gantenbein Pinot Noir. Sweet and sour red berries, some graphite, white pepper, cedar, also some tobacco leaf. It‘s medium+ bodied, has beautiful medium-high acidity, great freshness, medium+ tannin that is very good quality. Very good length. A very round, balanced and elegant Gantenbein that has no hard edges. Lovely.

Quality across the years is on very good levels. 2) Style shift? Vertical of 16 vintages of Gantenbein Pinot Noir. First wine in the line-up and one of the highlights. Super perfumed, ready-to-go and aromatic, with notes of white pepper, cedar wood, sweet and sour red berries (raspberries), nice minerality and a touch of herbal notes too. Medium- in body, with medium+ acidity adding nice freshness, lower-medium tannin that has melted away nicely very good depth. Good length. A lighter, fresh but superbly aromatic Gantenbein to drink up now. (93+)

From DMG and drank over several hours. Much better than a regular bottle last year making me wonder if that bottle was flawed or had suffered some heat damage along the way. Medium garnet color, clear and with translucent rim, no signs of browning. Earthy nose. Nice delineation on the palate, dark fruit, earth, a touch of toast, medium finish. Very nice. Poured into decanter and drank over 90 min. Despite the bottle having been upright for 3 weeks, it's a somewhat dull garnet in the glass, slightly browning towards a transparent rim, initial medicinal notes on the nose give way to red fruit and wood spices, on the palate this is soft and round with red and dark fruit and some herbal notes, short to medium finish. Swiss & Burgundy (The Ledbury, London.) : Again mellow, smooth, a slightly evolved quality cf the 02. With air this shows well. Rounded, a touch of caramel. A little more immediate than the 02 but similar quality. ****

Swiss & Burgundy (The Ledbury, London.) : Dark red fruit on the nose. Quite dense. Deep colour. A touch of oak. Oakier on the palate, and getting more so with air. Dense fruit. This doesn't have the approachableness of 07 Burgundy. Noticeably denser than the Wegelin. It's all there, but needs time. **(**).
