Bessa Valley Winery Petit Enira

This was brought by a friend from the winery and kept in the cellar since release. Exceeded expectations. Red fruit, mostly berries, prune, red figs, black licorice. Medium body, medium finish. Well made, but nothing out of the ordinary. A good every day red.

Nice QPR. Fruit-forward, medium body. Very good at PNP, fades quickly.

Interesting and very well made Bulgarian blend of 52% merlot, 26% syrah, 14% petit verdot and 8% cabernet sauvignon, aged in used oak barrels (1, 2 and 3 years old) for 12 months. Good concentration, elegant oaky tones, lots of fruit, nice complexity, good length. Medium intense aromas of cranberry, cherry, overripe strawberry, blackberry, vanilla, milk chocolate, eucalyptus. Dry wine, medium+ acidity, medium and fine tannins, full body, medium+ intense flavours, long finish. 14,5% - €12,95 @ Aarts wijnen

I wanted to like this wine made under the aegis of Stephan von Neiperg from 50+% Merlot and 25+% Syrah but I found it hard. There was a lot to like in some vibrant red fruit with a raspberry tinged fragrance, quite full body and firm finish but at first there was a pasty note in mid-palate, quite marked vanilla and caramel from oak ageing, heavy texture and rather abrasive acidity which made me suspect acidification.
