Comparison with El Pacto Ojo de Gallo Cardenas Rioja 2022 highlights the blacker fruit, not as sweet. Something savoury too, herbal notes of something. Similar on the palate, black cherry maybe. Good acid, moderate tannin. Juicy and fresh and nicely alive!

Bright cherry and cranberry. High acidity — almost searing at first — which gives the wine real freshness and energy. Tannins are low and unobtrusive. The alcohol provides a gentle warmth in the throat. Juicy and mouth-filling, with a slight dryness on the finish. Overall a pleasant, easy-drinking wine — the sort that would work well midweek or alongside pizza and a film.

deep red color, fresh scents of berries and herbs, fruit-forward in a Piedmont sense, displaying fresh and ripe flavors of red berries, blueberries, raspberries and earthy stone, sturdy tannin and smooth acidity, goes well with chicken parmigiana, food wine, drink now, sip or gulp, it is delicious

Random wines tasted during service (Oinoscent) : The wine shows fragrant profile, floral notes, red cherry notes, cranberry notes, red rose/carnation notes. The wine shows vibrant acidity, again red fruit, some stalky notes, a touch warm (14%), juicy tannins, med finish Party wine, better with some food though

Fresh and subtle on the nose with a gentle hint of cherries. The palate was bright and vivid — almost like drinking cranberry juice and rather refreshing when drunk straight out of the cellar on a warm day. The acidity did build up a little without food, but softened nicely alongside a simple tomato based pasta meal. A lively, summery red that’s best enjoyed with food and a slight chill. Tried again the next evening, the sharp cranberry note had …

Nose: cherry, raspberry, blackberry, graphite, cedar, dried green herbs, hay, violet, licorice, leathery. Palate: cherry, raspberry, licorice, green herbs, baking spice, cranberry. Dry, medium acidity, medium tannin, medium alcohol, medium body, medium finish. This wine is fine, nothing offensive but flavors aren't very distinct. Tastes good but not very complex

Dark reddish garnet in color, essentially opaque. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe red fruit aromas of blackberries, cherries & mulberries with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, spice notes, herbs & minerals. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with extended airing but should develop slightly further with additional aging.

GD Vajra masterclass (Mr Vertigo office) : a blend of vineyards, 20-25 maceration days In the nose, the wine shows vibrant red fruit, cherry and currant, broader than Dolcetto, a bit heavier in floral notes, shows a deeper core. The acidity is high, the fruit is again a bit on the red side, a bit spicier, juicy tannins, light to med body, a bit mineral, steely, med finish

GD Vajra, Barbera D'Alba 2023. Before getting into the nose etc, a really brilliant, bright purple. Label says 14 per cent but I'd guess closer to 15. It's quite brash on account of its youth. Cranberry, sour cherry, liquorice (can you roast liquorice? If so, roast liquorice), graphite, vine leaf, sumac, pepper. Bracing acid, and absolutely needs food, but enjoyable!
