Pfefferberg is a particularly favoured spot benefiting from a south-east exposition within the mostly east oriented (and overall very steep) Reiler Mullay-Hofberg. The nose of the '15 Pfefferberg feinherb isn't very floral, fruity or aromatic - but it offers clean and distinctly elegant aromas of grapefruit zest, hints of peach and white flowers, and sort of wet-rock mineral sensations. Needs time (hours or days) in the opened bottle to shake off the initial pear popsicle and sulphur. But then, what pure and lovely assorted citrus aromas. High, firm acidity manages to almost completely mask the residual sugar (35 grams? at 8,5% abv). Finishes long on a mineral note. Great value at €10,50 and a perfect match with blueprint south-east Asian flavours such as coriander, lime, and sweet chilli. Should be able to keep for as much as two decades, …
