Fresh and beautiful Pinot. No pitfalls from the 2003 vintage to be found here. Bright red color. Beautiful nose of cherry, spice, and tea. In the mouth, focused and energetic, with ripe cherry, baking spice, black tea, and a hint of mushrooms. Bright acidity sails along through the long finish. This is just terrifically good. A-

Popped and poured. Medium ruby; spicy nose of rhubarb and red berries. On the palate this has raspberry and a pronounced spiciness which I think may come from whole cluster fermentation. This wine is very much alive and kicking; surprisingly aggressive at 8 years. Much more tension than your typical RRV Pinot which tend to be softer and velvety. Very nice.

Wine Flock California Pinot Noir 2001-2008 (Dennis' Place on Erie) : A little darker in color. Touch of burnt orange on the nose. More ruby color than the rest. Rhubarb, cinnamon spice, curry spice, darker fresh cotton clothing. Spicier and a little sulfuric toned in the nose. Great acidity. Big wine. Tough, leather, horse saddle. Dusty. Heady. Really ripe. Juicy, jammy. Brown sugar. Can't believe I rated this an 88 last time around. Hmmm.....

Pinot Days - Chicago (Navy Pier) : Rich, open knit and delicious - similar to the 2004. Bing cherries, cranberry, spice and toast. Fresh and lifted across the mid-palate. Lingering spicy finish. Excellent.

Pinot Days Chicago (Navy Pier) : Tight spicy red fruit with some fat. Nice but not others from the address were better.

Excellent example of RRV fruit. Great flavor profile, a bit of tannin still.

My second bottle of this, not as memorable as the first. Straightforward, Green Valley-tasting pinot, medium nose, medium-to-full bodied and sweet on the palate. Good, not great. I'll probably wait another year or two for my next bottle.

OK....our first non mass-produced US Pinot Noir. Unfined, unfiltered and a remarkable (to a Brit) 14.5% alcohol. Burgundy in colour. Oak, leather and rubber on the nose, becoming sweeter with exposure to air. First impression is of creamy sweet vanilla (new oak?), not much fruit. With time in the glass, candied red fruit and cola notes appear. Peppery finish. Being used to the lower alcohol, higher acidity and more prominent tannins in Northern European PN I have no idea how …
