Light yellow. Nose is developed, mineral, with notes of oyster shells, wet gravel, pears and just a touch of white pepper. Mouthfeel is developed, fresh, slightly austere, almost medium bodied, with fresh acidity and notes of pears, oyster shells and some wet gravel. Fresh and very nice entry level grüner veltliner from Prager, now with some development, but this will still drink well at least a few years more.

Med. gold in glass. Citric nose. Still very citric on palate perhaps a touch of GV white pepper at the end. Well made, but not very exciting.

2018 vintage

Intensity medium; smell seems to be somewhat muted, especially compared to the palate. Citrus, yellow apple, pear, peach, nectarine, flint, bee wax, honey. Acidity medium(+). Finish medium(+). Beautifully in balance. According to their website the only Federspiel Prager produces with GV. Could perhaps improve with a few more years.

12.5% alc…nose of squeezed lemon, saline (will be present on the palate too), flint, minerality, steely…zippy impression of all the things on the nose, 20+ second finish. Will buy a case, these are going to have a long life.

A classic grüner veltliner with the limited complexity you would expect from a Federspiel. This was the third and last bottle I drank and this one was the best, having aged a bit. It will probably improve over the next 2-3 years.

2018 vintage

First bottle in 15 months. Retains the citric notes on nose and palates of earlier bottles, but is missing the savory elements that characterized the bottles I drank in 2020. This is GV at the Sauvignon blancesque end of its scale. Still quite mineral. Will let my final bottle rest for at least one year.

Very vegetal and herbal, both in bouquet and on palate. The description below of this being like water in which green leafy vegs have been cooked is apt. Citrus comes through a bit stronger on days 2 &3. Sour/bitter at the back (sorrel?), so best with food. Quite mineral. Good expression of the varietal and place.

Love this wine. Nice fruit (yellow apple, pear, some citrus), but this is really driven by the acidity and minerality.

Lemony nose with (I think) a little of the classic white pepper and gherkins. Spicy lemon, even something sweet and spicy. Sharp attack and then in the midpalate it’s like a little cliff arises of fleshy and cured lemon, and then dark rocky and peppery notes on the finish, which persist. Lean, with verve and finesse. Terrific bottle.

really vegetal in a great way. smelled and tasted like water that had been used to boil green vegetables. artichoke, broccoli,etc. not as deep and intense as higher tier prager, but still very good!

Citrus and tarragon nose, palate of lime and pineapple, plus grapefruit pith lending a bitter finish. (Bitter/sourness more pronounced on day 2) Likely upside with some age. A very clean, pure GV Federspiel. Nice pairing with lightly curried dal.

To young. Potential, but at this point in time still wild, and a bit sour. Needs to lose acidity. Check back in two years....

My last bottle. Still very fresh and probably needs a few more months in bottle. Already showing some typicity with some stonefruit and vegetal Grüner characters. A touch sour but just needs time.

Looking fresh and zippy. Clear transparent colour, aromas this stage are a little straight forward; passionfruit, cut lime, white peach. Dry and crisp palate, low on extract. Fairly easy to drink.

Occasional tasting group (@ PZ Only Magnums) : Butter and yellow fruits. Minerals. Some bitterness in the medium long finish. Very mature. Should have been drunk some years ago. No score.
