I have nothing to add to GTFreek's excellent note. I thought intensity and finish could have been stronger. 89+

Beautiful nose, nice development. Palate matches with light tertiary notes, dried fruit, herbal tones, medium structure. In a good place and nice value.

From Rioja Alavesa, more French oak than American. Medium plus nose shows dried cranberry, cedar, fresh earth, herbal tones. Palate nicely expressive, juicy fruits, deep florals, sandalwood, forest floor. Nice example of type.

NobleRottersSydney - Sangiovese & Tempranillo (Glass Brasserie, Sydney) : {cork, 14%} [Stephen] Liquid cherry nose, fumey/smoky quality, but not obviously oaky. Big ripe flavours on the palate; black & purple fruits pumped up; could pass for 15% alcohol, not 14%. Also very new world in style. Medium weight in the end though, with lowish chalky tannins and low/medium acidity. Finishes a fraction short of medium length. Not needing further aging.

Somewhat disjointed on first opening so recorked and stored in fridge, note from day 3 when it was showing better. Deep ruby. Reasonably intense nose with lots of baking spice and ripe, dark fruit. Some cedar and boot polish too. Medium bodied with chewy tannins and good acidity, but the structure is overwhelming the fruit currently. Should improve.

The "slightly corked" theme continues, although it seems to dissipate a bit. Might need to try decanting to see what happens.

Overall well-made. Bouquet of mashed cranberry, ripe cherry, light tobacco, hint of licorice. On the palate black plum, ripe cherry, a hint of cinnamon, though it is not the whole spectrum of the taste of cinnamon. Quite acidic, but the acidity is integrated well. That does not wholly apply to the alcohol.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cranberry and raspberry. It tastes like cranberry, red currant and cinnamon. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

blended with Graciano, Mazuelo. From select parcels. 19 months 70/30 French/American oak. Medium nose shows red fruits, florals, warm spice. Palate more expressive, darker than Crianza, black plum, singed red cherry, hint of balsamic, some mineral tones, structure does well, medium plus tannins and acid framing medium body. Very good value.

Classic rioja style, cellared for you and ready to drink. Quite light in colour, dill and spices on the nose, some red fruit. Medium-bodied, somewhat dry tannins. A little disjointed at first but after some aeration it's starting to come together. Excellent with a piece of fillet steak, lamb would also be a good pairing. At 12€, the QPR is off the scale.

Mature nose showing leather, red fruit, bay leafs and dill. The maturity continues on the palate with smooth tannins and lots of fruit lead way for the long finish. This is drinking very fine already and is a very good sample of a mature Rioja from a good vintage. This can of course cellar much longer if you like your wine on the very mature side.

Pop and poured. Nicely aged, medium matured aromas of sweet plum fruit, baking spices, tart dark cherry skins, light graphite. Very very pleasing, delicious. Smells awesome. Palate entry is more of that delicious sweet mature cherry fruit tones. Really juicy and lovely, coupled with some berry pie notes, great acid and delicious sweet soil tones. Nice blueberry notes. Just tons of various berries. There's just enough tannin holding it all together, complete with beautiful acid. Wow, and it follows up …

Opened about an hour before drinking. A brighter, healthier garnet colour. Again, classic orange peel and bright red fruit. Good acidity and a silky texture. Very good but not great mature rioja. Holds well over 90 mins without any fading. Subtle fireside, coffee and spice box flavours through the mid palate. Positive medium-length finish. Bare ****

This time had with paella. And frankly, maybe it was the smells of the kitchen, maybe it was the moment, but from the time that cork was pulled everything was all-right.

The fruit and tannins have subsided and the wine has mellowed. It is amazingly smooth and delicate - showing the characteristics of age in a pleasing way. Usually, I am not a fan of really old wine, but this was a very graceful exception.

Just ethereal grace and beauty. Tastes of old wine but certainly has the sweet cherry note of Tempranillo fruit showing through still. Lots of cedary spices, forest floor in there as well. Graceful, succulent palate. Amazing stuff. Vanilla and toast. A world to smell in the glass.

An absolute stunner. And right in its prime. Seemed more youthful and vibrant then the 1981 which was served alongside. Here, just layers and layers of fruit, wood-spice, forest floor, but all lifted and high tonned. A vibrant singing palate. Gorgeous and in no danger of going over the hill.

This wine is probably passed its prime. Light to medium color and body. Lacking most of the fruit, spice, body, earth or complexity that I look for in Rioja. Fresh acidity was nice. Red fruit dominates, tastes like Cru Beauj. or Barbera. Still not bad, just not great. Going down hill..Drink now! AMM

1998 revisited ten years on (Nottingham) : A fairly interesting nose, but a bit on the closed side. Quite savoury, with a buttery nuttiness to it. If this were served in a black glass, you could easily mistake it for a white Rhone on the nose. The palate is smooth, with good black fruit followed by fairly mouthfilling tannins. Nice finish. This seems pretty much at its peak to me: I can't think that it is going to improve much …

Not decanted. Aromas of leather, cedar and tobacco are echoed on to the palate which also shows some nice plum fruit. Medium finish. A fine old world Rioja for $20. Very food friendly. Also quite consistent with the 1997.
