A Tempranillo wrapped in a sack? Yup, and for $14 you too can get this 88 point Rioja that is a medium ruby colored with slow moving legs. The aromas and flavors include the classic blackberry bramble, dust, musky perfume, floral garden and light, toasty oak. Medium (+) acidity coupled with medium a body and medium tannins make for a nice mouthfeel. Not a stunner, it will be very serviceable for everyday drinking and should pair really well with tapas, …

We marked this as "don't drink until 2022" after trying a bottle last year. Much better with the extra year. We are huge fans of Spanish wines and this one did not disappoint. Paired with pork cutlets, which worked very well. Great value for the $10 price.

Bought for week night QPR and pleasantly surprised how much this punches above its bargain $9 price point. Slow oxed in btl & glasses 2-1/2hrs before diner. Served in low low 60s. Semi translucent ruby red. This showed excellent balances and un-expected death. Nothing out of place. Classic Rioja red fruit, just a pleasant hint of leather, herbs & mineral on an energetic palate. A modest 13.5% alc is appreciated. Going back for more. Paid $9, drinks like $20+ BTW, …

Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim. Nice fruity nose with cedar, black currants, black cherries, light earth, vegetables, vanilla, licorice, spices, dark chocolates and black pepper. Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, vanilla, spices, espresso, chocolates, light earth and peppercorn. Medium finish with grippy tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a nice Tempranillo from Rioja. Still young, but already enjoyable, even by itself. Good …

My second tasting of this wine and vintage reported on in CellarTracker (the first was 1/16/2021). It was tasted a few degrees Celsius warmer (25 degrees vs 22 degrees) and the cork showed a little less wine penetration (2 mm vs 3 mm max). The warmer temperature brought out more of what I think of as typical Spanish qualities in this wine -- a masculine, woody astringency, which I termed 'very dry with some puckering' in the earlier review. This …
