This is a nice crianza Rioja from the Alta region.. Plums, blackberry, tobacco, vanilla, with nice tannin and moderately long finish. This is a very nice wine at a good price. Still looking for a reserva.

Gonzalez arias (Sherry producer) 12 months in French and American oak 96% Tempranillo, 3% Garnacha, 1% Mazuelo (carignan) Red cherry, herbs (rosemary), cedar, tobacco. Easy drinking on palate. Soft tannins, red fruit, light to medium body. Not too interesting for me.

On the nose - cranberry and oak. Violets and bark. Possibly tobacco? A good Rioja, especially at this price. On the palate - red berries followed by an oaky, spicy finish. Core of a plum - pip. Green peppers and liquorice. Medium tannins, medium finish. A leathery feel. Tasted directly after another 2018 Crianza, this one was noticeably much nicer.

Vibrant ruby color. Aromas of raspberries and red currants, with tones of tobacco, sage, earthy vibes, with floral potpourri. The palate sports dusty tannins an lively acidity, and this medium/full-bodied wine has a nice lively balance. Tart currants and strawberries, the fruit is crunchy and juicy, mixed with tobacco, pepper, rose petals, and earthy, mineral undertones. A reliably delicious Rioja value, here.

Something like €7-8 at Lidl in Spain. A touch sour on opening but you really can’t complain at this value - it’s a tiny bit sharp on the finish (or is that good energy on a long finish?) but otherwise leathery, mellow, red-fruit and tobacco classic Rioja.

Nice nose albeit a bit primary: dark red fruit with a hint of tobacco in the background. Medium body, medium-low tannin, medium-to-medium low acid. The palate was initially dull and a bit bitter, but this got much better with air bringing on some tart cherry and mint, with good length on the finish. Really nice for the price.

light scarlet colour, transparent. nose: very typical - sweet cherries ands other dark fruits, cinamon, quite sharp. taste: apart from custard, vanilla notes quite fresh with good accidity; a little bit opaque finish softened by vanilla ice with fruits flavours. Very mainstream but well done.

Medium red. Tempranillo fruit in teh nose, but not grapey. Hints of light butterscotch (several of us found that) - but it faded after a few minutes or was overwhelmed by other flaovrs. Balanced for a lsightly acidic aproach - so serve with food. A bit of wood in the palate, and some oak touches in the nose as well. Short finish, but commensurate with the overal medium to light body and style. Served with 4 cheese raviolo and basil …

One dimensional nose of black cherry, which continues on to the palate and gets a bit biting/astringent (bitter cherry) as it evolves to the attack. Moderate weight. The finish is dominated by alcohol but overall is satisfying while not particularly elegant, complex or sophisticated.
