Jean-Pierre Robinot (L'Opera des Vins) Chenin Blanc L'Iris

Gold with a bit of gas collecting on the bottom of the glass Light oxidized apple nose A touch of prickly gas as well as oxidation on the palate, but great cool acidity keeps this fresh with some Fino notes. Bone dry. Not overly “natural” this is quite lovely and begs to be drunk, but that said, might be a bit polarizing. 90+(?)

Served blind this was really hard to place. Seemed to show an oxidative nose with dark golden fruit. Rather lush palate with some brightness. With air this deepened and added some mineral cut. Guessed Roussanne but knew that wasn’t quite right. Hard wine to describe.

A deceptive wine, served blind, initially a little oxidative, but with air, settled into a fairly clean, crisp, and lithe white. Not much fruit, and in its void a fine metallic note. Green apple on the palate, a hint of butterscotch, reminiscent of aged chardonnay. At least there is nothing funky or “natty” about it. A treat to try, thanks @superanchoa
