Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Echezeaux

Not sure if I had ever tasted the Girardin Ech in the 1999 vintage before but this is really coming together with early secondary development in the form of various dried herbs, beet root, woodsmoke, cinnamon/clove, tons of that autumn spice box character all over very black, darker cherry fruit. Whiffs of sandalwood and menthol come about with great authority but elegance. The palate does show a bit of that charred/toasty element with supple, rounded flavors that never seem too …

Weekly tasting group #221; A mixed set fully blind tasted. (@ WW) : Complex and mature bouquet with -beside some red fruits- mostly tertiary impressions. Tar, toast, asphalt, gun powder, a bit organic and rustic. On the palate the same special impressions, minerals, volcanic, beautiful acidity, soft tannin and strawberries. Monthly Tasting Group HWS #087; Burgundy: Vosne Romanée and Clos Vougeot. (By VD) : Beautiful bouquet with cherries still, also flint stone, spiciness, coffee, chocolate and a firm dose of toast. Same on the palate, also forest floor, truffle, minerals, some mint and red berries. Soft acidity, tannin and bitterness. A really beautiful, complex and developed wine with a very good length.

Drank at Mrkt. A very nice wine, but I do not remember many of the details.

Sour cherry notes. Tart. Would've guessed a tough example of '96 blind, actually double checked the label. Grand Cru in name only.

Half a case of this wine gone now. VA on the nose with road tar and some cherries. Never had a good bottle of this grand cru.
