Clear, medium ruby-garnet. The nose is clean, medium in intensity, with classic red fruit, spice and a little earth. The palate is dry, with plenty of fruit left, and nicely balanced. Medium acidity, tannins and alcohol (tastes lower than the stated 14%). I am pretty amazed at the freshness and clarity of this wine after 19 years. WS gave it am 86 in 2001 and said "drink through 2003." WTF do the "experts" know?

Territori del Mondo: California (AIS, Parco dei Principi, Rome) : Light, transparent ruby colour; looks like a PN. Smells like a PN, light intensity of small berryfruits. On palate, just-right fruitiness, with minerality, earthiness and some sweet spices; highish alcohol (14%), highish acidity; good tannins (11 months in French barrique). Nicely balanced and reasonably elegant (i.e., not overly rich / concentrated / fat). I like it.
