Matetic, Corralillo Syrah, San Antonio Valley

This is the best value I could find in the LCBO. I scoured the province and bought every bottle I could find.

Red berries, some cocoa , pepper and spices. Deep colour - well balanced. Very tasty. Decanted for an hour but started to open up pleasantly well in half the time.

There isn't really a "wow" factor here, and the bottle even opens to a slight rubber hit that quickly dissipates, but this luscious, unctuous Chilean Syrah grows and grows on you until you realize it's a gorgeous "comfort" wine with loads of cross-sensory appeal; deep purple, it wafts intoxicating notes of rich, dark fruit, especially blackcurrant, along with spice and herb elements, and in the mouth there's tangy red fruit, licorice, and a hint of mocha, and each encounter seems …

Weekly tasting group #104; One varietal (or blend), two countries (and that 6 times) (@ BS) : Concentrated bouquet, rustic, leather, licorice and some youthful lactic impressions. On the palate dark fruits, leather, bacon and vanilla. Firm acidity and round tannin. Some green bell pepper and chocolate in the finish.
