you know how sometimes you buy a wine, cellar it for too long, and then are disappointed with the wine when you finally drink it? this was the opposite. probably didn't pay much for this and its drinking perfectly. nice blend of fruit and secondary flavors.

Drank very nicely - better with a little air. Lots of cedar, licorice, leather and some spice at the end. Fruits a bit muted, but quite smooth with some tannins still present. Full bodied and nice mouth feel. Probably peaking at this stage.

Similar notes but a bit more muted than the last bottle I had a year ago. Maybe going into a dormant stage - so rating a little lower with current characteristics. Dark fruit, some cedar and slight vegetal taste on the finish. Fruit not as lively as in previous note. Have found similar traits in several 2004 Montsant wines, where they become very closed. Now that I've time to drink a few bottles with friends over the past three months, I can say that everyone loves this wine. If you just want to socialize, it's very quaffable, but its complexity also impresses anyone who pays attention. As great as it is, I've dropped the rating a point this time because this wine always leaves me wishing that it had just a bit more horsepower.

Wine Advocate tends to inflate ratings of inexpensive Spanish reds, but they nailed this one. Like a good Supertuscan, Costers del Gravet offers the best of both worlds: cabernet berry, mediterranean backbone. Being Catalan, Capcanes added Grenache instead of Sangiovese for the backbone. Beautiful weight and color, medium-to-long finish. Enjoyable straight out of the bottle, but opened up further after about 15 minutes.

Bought this as a staff pick from the wine shop. Not knowing anything about it, I was a little wary, but the description of the flavors sounded like something that I would be into. At first the nose was overwhelmingly burnt, funky toast, that just about turned me off to the wine. Taking a couple sips showed that the toast carried over to the palate, but not as heavy as the nose, and is balanced out with some bright raspberries …

Berry nose. Initial swetness gives way to a savory dryness. Cocoa and some red berry flavors mostly, with a finish of dried fruit. Drinking very well now and no improvement likely. Well balanced, lightish wine with just some coarse tannin. Easy-going and great with pizza.
