Azienda Agricola La Torre Rosso di Montalcino

This somehow came together very nicely! Fully integrated by now, smooth and expressive, SG rosso depth at its best. A surprise!

Light red core fading at the rim. The nose is completely shut down right now barely showing faint red fruit and oak. The palate shows promise but the wine seems to be past its peak. Ripe strawberries, raspberries, red cherries, rosehips, decayed violets, and vanilla were followed by a thin mouthfeel and high strung acidity which never resolved itself or put on weight over two days.

Red with slightly tawny edge. Aggressively brambly aromatics. After this, however, the wine won me over to some extent on the palate with a hint of sweet red fruit and some complexity. The acidity still needs to integrate. Better than I feared when I sniffed it.

While it's a bit lighter on it's feet than a Chianti, this is pure much more in that mode. Fresh cherry, fall leaves, underbrush to full on wood. Medium plus bodied and decent acid with a subtle mineral finish. I'd hold for another year or two, but not a long cellar.

La Torre Visit (Az. Agr. La Torre, Sant'Angelo in Colle, Italy) : Violets, red cherries, hints of earth. A light rendition that doesn't achieve the depth or concentration of recent vintages like 2011, 2010, and 2006. Still, in the context of the vintage it's a pretty wine, and one to drink in the next 2-3 years (which is when Luigi Anania, proprietor of La Torre, prefers to drink his Rossos anyway).
