The nose was layered and classic: redcurrant, black tea, damp forest floor, and a touch of sweet spice, with a quiet floral lift that added finesse. On the palate, the wine was structured yet polished, with the fine-grained tannins and cool-fruited core that define the vintage. It didn’t quite hit the emotional highs or textural magic of Rousseau’s very best Clos de Bèze vintages like 2001 and 1993, but it was complete

A gorgeous wine especially the texture which is like red silk. Layered and very fine with deliciously sweet cherry fruit and zen-like balance. The finish shows a lovely Beze spice-driven complexity but it doesn't have the precision or complexity of the '96 drunk alongside. Perhaps more time is needed? 95+

Complex aromatics of sweet earth, floral spice, freshly grated ginger and dark fruits. The palate is rich velvety and layered. It has such an engaging inner mouth perfume. Balance is spot on and the finish drives on and fans out.

Last tasted September 2019, this has developed further but still has some way to go to reach full maturity. I should perhaps wait another 5 years before trying again. For now, it has concentrated redcurrant/raspberry fruit, great depth and length and fine acidity. Certainly good to drink now, but it will be better.

Good bottle but had better. Sarsaparilla didn't really come thru. Palate quite dense, less serene.

Managed to guess the vintage blind, even a stopped watch is correct twice a day. This presented darker and richer than 01, but not quite as exceptional aromatically, and not quite as precise on the palate. Still lovely, and I think this will be much better in time. Drink 01 today, and 02 in another 5-10 years. 4 Rousseaus showed up at the table, all excellent or better. In the end the 93 and 01 Beze were world class, and …

Lafon Montrachet vertical with some great champagne and reds. (Four Seasons, Minneapolis, MN) : Tasted alongside the '99 and 01. 'Chocolate covered cherries'. Lush, pure red fruit. Earth...elegance with power. Great balance. Soft tannins. Explosive finish.

Gorgeous , very elegant and still lots of room to grow. At its apex but it will be for a long time. Paired with 99 which was better but we are talking shades of excellence

THAT Rousseau night (IT Shanghai) : Having tasted the 90 Beze in the previous flight, I am convinced that this wine will improve significantly with time. It opens with the same signature of lush and pure red fruit, with notes of wild strawberries and cranberries, complemented by hints of smoke and earth. On the palate, the wine transitions towards plums, black tea, hawthorn, and limestone. There is some chalky minerality with slightly sweet undertones on the mid palate. While there …

An Amazing Rousseau-based Burgundy Dinner with the Seattle Vinous Group (Seattle) : Saturated ruby, by far the deepest color of the 3 vintages tasted. Ripe black cherry liqueur and significant oak on the nose. Deep, sweet but rather simple dark red fruit, relatively plush, some round tannins, and lower acidity. To an extent, this still needs a lot of time, but I doubt it will ever be as complex and interesting as the ‘96 or the ‘93. The more obvious …

A lovely wine, but felt a bit hot by comparison after so many older, elegant wines. This is going to be great in time, and is certainly enjoyable now but just not the heights of what Rousseau Beze can provide.

Came across as lush and somewhat ripe with better fruit than the 96 alongside it, but the 96 has better focus. I gave it a slight edge, though the 96 was more thought provoking….in the end I wished both were better

Expressive red fruit. Lacked a bit of precision on the palate. Slightly more advanced than the best bottles. Light dry soil tones here. An overall sweetness to the palate compared to the Chambertin, with mid octave floral notes

Glossy and and smooth palate. High quality fruit here and a pleasing mouthfeel. More to come from this one. Great bottle.

Rousseau Chambertin v Rousseau Clos de Beze vertical battle - WHO WILL REIGN SUPREME!? (Jonathan Club) : damn that’s a big boy. Crazy opulent fruit. There’s some oak on the back end tho that’s tough. A little gritty edge. Piercing glycerin and super ripe fruit. This is fully youthful juicy primary that I expected 2002s to be in. Like the 99 Beze, the beze seems to be showing more primary and less developed.

In contrast to 2001 Chambertin, this needs more time. Starts off ripe and alcoholic, needs more time to resolve. This is a deep, brutish wine.

Dark complexion versus the '96 served alongside with a less expressive nose. Compact dark red fruit, soil tones, and dark spices. Palate requires more time but has good material. 93+

Quite a deep colour; dark fruited, still mostly primary but with a slight gaminess; very concentrated, elegant and long, but being held in check by some residual tannin. Approachable but there is no hurry.

As good of an encounter as I have had with this wine. Dark red cherry nose, with a slightly candied complexion. Still carrying some wood. Upside to this bottle. 95-96+

During a Paulée dinner, so only brief impressions. Very dense, lots of structure, earthy, some torrefaction. Feels young still. May be this needs more time but tonight it did not come across as an exceptional wine.

Deep color with a relatively restrained nose. Delicious fruit, though not a whole lot of complexity showing through maybe due to the strong tannic spine. Would love to see how this does with some more time, maybe another 3-5 years.

Nice floral aromas. Pretty dense but vibrant palate. Starting to enter its drinking window but a few years more of cellar age would certainly not hurt.
