Tasting with Duncan Meyers of Arnot Roberts (Ordinaire) : Super exciting with a perfume to breathe all day long. Daring, harmonious flavors of citrus, potato chip, grass, flashes of lime, hard candy. Long finish drips down the corners of the tongue.

This has mellowed a lot since my last bottle two years ago. More approachable now if also less distinctive. Lemon, green apple skins, honeysuckle, white flowers on the somewhat reticent nose. More citrus on palate. As it warms up, becomes a little more complex with the addition of a bitter element (like the scent you get when pullling ivy) on the nose and palate. Lovely clean finish. A very pleasant summer lunch-time sipper.

No detailed notes. Quite a bit more elegant in styling than my previous note would suggest, with more prominent acidity and dialed back fruit. As such, well balanced, sweetness in check. As much as I liked the '11 Bedrock Compagni, which was sweeter and richer earlier in the week, the Arnot Roberts comes across as more refined at this point in their respective lives.

Fall 2013 Housecleaning : I like this, but what an oddball wine. It almost defies description. Sweet notes and a bit of petrol on the nose. On the palate - delicious. Spicy fruit with abundant acidity and a bit of a resinous character through the midpalate that holds it all together. Interesting white blend. Notes of lychee, grapefruit, linalool, lime peel and green apple. The mouthfeel had a distinct waxiness that was cut nicely by the acid present. Overall a nicely complex wine with interesting characteristics.

Mineral, lime, driving acidity. Palate texture and a wine that taps you on the shoulder. Bracing on the palate. Great match with cilantro. And the blend is: Sylvaner, Green Hungarian, French COlombard, Rotor Veltliner, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Berger, Trousseau Gris, Chardonnay and maybe a little Kerner. Straight from the horses mouth! I am drinking too cold right now but otherwise it is one of those "quiet" yet incredibly intriguing wines. LIke it is sailing over my head. Reminds me of Nussberger Alte Reben.

(A-R open house) Hard to believe the mix of varieties in this: French Colombard? Didn't know that was grown anywhere outside of the Central Valley. What a fresh, appealing, racy, sitting-in-the-yard-on-a-warm-summer-evening kind of wine. Fresh white fruit and a squirt of lime; crisp and bracing.

Visit to Arnot-Roberts (Arnot-Roberts, Sonoma, CA) : Gorgeous nose of melon, white flowers and lime. Light to medium bodied with medium acidity. Clean, crisp lemon and granny smith apple flavors. Nice long lemony finish. Great freshness and balance. Very different incarnation of this vineyard field blend than Bedrock's, which features much more gewurztraminer character. Apparently this comes from a section of the vineyard that contains more riesling and sylvaner.

Ivy, lemon pith, brine and maybe a touch of iodine on the nose. With air and time, the wine softened somewhat, with white flowers and subtle peachy aromas emerging -- at this point the wine reminded me of a Gruner Veltliner. A singular wine and quite enjoyable. Went better with fruit (mango-mint salad) than with main entree (beet-feta salad). 12.7% abv.

Slightly green pear fruit, cress and mineral dominate this wine until it warms up a bit when it goes for the underripe peach end of the fruit spectrum. Good depth of flavor, and very fine balance. Nicely done.
