Vin färg, tät kärna, lite fällning Initialt mycket svarta oliver, sedermera mer sötlakrits, tobak, askopp, lite malört, rostat kaffe Torrt, strävt, väldigt härlig frukt i munnen, medium+ längd, lakrits i avslutet. Grymt prisvärt vin.

Dark fruited, extracted, marks of oak. Good depth and complexity, notes of smoke, tobacco. Interesting but not my style.

My first bottle with Coravin. Didn't work very well. Then when finally took out the cork it's plastic! How likely on a French Rhone? Anyway, still deep ruby. Nice balance and freshness. Lots of dark berry fruits. Some dried meats. Had some good glasses early on!

In the words of my grandson Niko, "I like it". Had this tonight with a perfectly cooked prime strip steak with trimmings baked potato, balsamic mushrooms, salad and greenbeans. Typical syrah from the region, one of my favorites. Ready to drink. Unremarkable, as in well balanced. Full and rich on the nose after being opened a while, acidity immediately joined by delicious dark fruits followed by persistant refined tannins. Siundtrack suggestion, It's Good To Be King by Tom Petty RIP.

Hardly changed from five years ago. Pretty, fresh aromas - crushed mixed berries, flowers, savory olive, black pepper, subtle smoke. Fresh, tasty, with bright acidity and well integrated medium strength tannins. Good stuff, good value.

Good medium-bodied purple appearance, with some ruby; no signs of age. A subtle nose: black fruits, maybe a little redcurrant. A little soft liquorice and maybe chocolate, a little gentle spice too - black pepper on the back of the nose. Possibly some violets and even roses. Soft to taste, but still some structure. Juicy blackberries, a little cherry and a gently sour cherry finish. Brandy-like notes without being spirity.

On PnP, very disappointing - musty nose, little fruit or much of interest. After a 1 hour decant, the funky noise blew off and the fruit came forward into a very nice Croze. Medium body with no tannins and good acidity - give it an hour + decant and drink now rather than latter.

I let this rest for a couple of years to let it smooth out the edges and was rewarded - full bodied, concentrated and moderately tannic, showing classic Rhone aromas and flavors of meats, tapenade, blackberries and cassis.

Mmm, drinking so well right now - at least to me today! The spicy syrah white pepper has subsided a bit, and the tannin is softer. Nice dark blackberry fruit, spice, fresh acidity. Purple deliciousness now. Seems to have evolved over the past 2 years, so I would drink sooner than later, but no big hurry. Yum!

Just as good structure and expression, but perhaps not enough time for it to open up to reveal all its hidden (and well integrated) aromas. We'll see tomorrow.

Very classic N. Rhone. Perfect year with coolness and still ripe and black fruit. Give it at least 1 hour in the decanter. Will drink very well for the next 5-7 years. 91+

Am I drinking the same wine as some of these other dudes/dudettes? Are my standards of excellency too low? This has great fruit, complexity, freshness, legs, a point to make and just overall easiness to drink that will make you come back for more. Better than some fancy cote roties and hermitages I have tried. Agree with the two thumbs way up!

Northern Rhone (Decant, Christchurch) : Deep purple. Rich, smokey, ripe stems (!), hedgrerow berries, fermenting grapes. On the palate rich, juicy, obvious but balannced astringency, dry at the end. [Riverbed soils composed of gravel and some fines, no oak, 4-5 year aging potential]

The surprise of the day really. Class, integration, balance - nothing sticking out, nice finish. Syrah but not rustic. Above basic Croze, good stuff, and two thumbs way up.

Exactly what you want from a Crozes-Hermitage. Packed full of dark, meaty fruit, raspberry aromas, some minerals and a tangy, peppery finish. A decant of 30 minutes helps loosen it up a touch. Very good example of what this region should taste like. Approachable now.

Decanted for 1 1/2 hours. Quite aromatic, olive paste, pepper, flowers, stone, cohesive and very pretty. Similar on the palate, but a bit more restrained, olive, black pepper, flowers, stone, iron, with dark fruit lurking beneath. Elegant, well balanced, and tasty. Went very well with a cote de boeuf and maitake gnocchiflette. Disappointed to see a fake cork, but that won't keep me from getting more to age, good stuff and good value.

Deep purple, with a thick almost black core. Rich, savoury, spicy nose - mixed forest fruits with pepper and coriander, but also some floral aromas, like a sniff of a strong-smelling rose. Complex soft and savoury palate. Dry with good tannic structure and a spicy, spirity finish. Very, very good but worth a few more years' wait

Great concentration on the palate with richness but still quick. Back end is harder edged, young. Delicious stuff here.

29th Birthday Chateauneuf du Pape Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.) : This is the best vintage of this wine that I've tasted, much more structure and depth than the 2007, 2008 and even the 2009. An aromatically opulent wine, with aromas of plum, smoke, black berry and peppered steak. Medium-bodied with fresh accid and grippy but sweet tannins. I love the meat, pepper and blackberry essence in this wine.

(at Yannick Ripoche, Les Passionnés du Vin, near Annecy) Dark purple color Rich Complex heavy black fruits aroma Rich, full body, black fruits flavors, spicy, round tannins, balanced, harmonious, quite a surprise for a young wine. Already enjoyable and ready by now, though can age 5-8 years more.
