Improved with air (1hr in), but was never truly great. Felt its age.

NYE 2018. Held wonderfully, deep notes and smooth

The Knights Valley bottling @ Beringer was always a second thought. Unlike today, where this bottling is expensive and highly touted, 20 years ago Ed Sbragia went about making a superb, inexpensive bottling that rewards the patient. Without the hype, but blessed with the volcanic soil therein, these beauties take just as long as the Private Reserve bottling to show their all. Dark, smoky, richly expressive with coffee, cassis and black cherry notes, it is a joy to drink now--assuming …

As per previous tasters this was much better than expected considering 1998 was a so so vintage in Northern California. Very savoury and an old world feel with not much fruit to speak of. Very enjoyable and better with food, bbq or a good piece of roast beef. This has definitely peaked and will not get any better so drink up and enjoy if you have any bottles in the cellar. A nice surprise for the price and vintage!

Hearty, cherry, deep color and flavor. Much better than expected. Had in basement since 2001 and glad I waited. Nothing better for me than an aged cab with nice steak on the grill.

From a Magnum. Better than I expected. Proper cabernet aromas and flavors, but rather muted and with soft tannins and low acidity. Probably just starting to decline in a magnum format. Nothing really wrong, but nothing to compliment.

Lots of rich cherry flavors. Paired extremely well with beef roast.

School social, p&p/no decant. Full flavors of dark cherries, cassis, earth and tobacco showed quite well and with depth. Surprisingly the flavor profile did not show any sign of age. I cannot say how well it held together because the bottle disappeared within 20 minutes. Tannins were soft and fully integrated, while significant oak detracted from an otherwise pleasant experience.

Far from a great wine, but thought much better than the reviews indicate. Had Sun nt at the dog party.

Waited too long to drink up and enjoy. Nice aroma of black cherry and tobacco. The flavor complexities are still there, but definitely on the decline now. Black cherry, plum, some raisin, cigar smoke. Had as an after dinner drink.

Fading flavors of cedar, coffee, plums, black cherries, blackberries, and tobacco. Regrets for missing this respectable cab during its prime - missed it by a year.

Rich tannins and lots of depth--unmistakably california cab. Decanted for 1 hour. Enjoyed with beef fillet. Onset was very promising. Pallete and finish was unfulfilling--it dropped off too quickly.

Drank with a delicious medium-rare rib roast seasoned with a herbs de provence rub. It had a wonderful bouquet of fruit, and was smooth and supple with only the slightest hint of tannin remaining. The finish was very abbreviated and flat. Overall, a very nice wine for the price, but I think it was a little past its prime. Knights Valley is not likely to hold up like a Beringer Private Reserve. On the second night, drank with steak salad …

Deep ruby to purple in colour. Intense nose of milk chocolate, raspberries, cassis, oak, and flint. Full bodied fruit bomb with dark, crushed fruit, and integrated tannins. Needs another year in the cellar, but then it's ready for prime time.
