Schloss Lieser, Lieser Niederberg Helden Riesling Kabinett, Mosel

Maybe a decant would help, but this was tight, tight, tight! Quite acidic, little fruit, very lean wine. Not a joy to drink at the moment. I hope it has only closed down for a few years now and will become a bit more luscious with age.

I would call this off dry. Perfect accompaniment to Chicory, toasted Walnut & Roquefort Salad with a Honey, Vinegar + Oil dressing. There is enough fruit to cut through the salt and it makes the combination something special.

Schloss Lieser always delivers on quality! This is their base (feinherb) cuvee and at €10/ bottle (at the estate) this is a steal. It remained open in the fridge for 7 days and at day 7 it was as good as on day 2. White peach, crisp pear and apple with a lovely sweetness balancing the high acidity. Medium+ finish

Uit het warme oogstjaar �18, nu afkomstig van betere percelen. Subtiele aroma�s van ananas, groene appel, honing, pompelmoes, perzik & petrol. Licht romig in de mond met voornamelijk honing en een kleine touch petrol. In tegenstelling tot de SL kabinett is deze wat verfijnder in de afdronk met plezierige zuurtjes dat eindigt op een minerale (steen) noot.

Flashback - Nov 2022 I thought Kabinett represented a more dry style Riesling from Mosel, Germany. However I found this on the sweet side. Sadly, there was not enough acidity to lift or balance this wine for my palate. Lovely petroleum nose, with a citrus palate partially sweet. Mosel weekend; 10/7/2021-10/10/2021 ((Punderich, Bernkastel, Lieser, Wehlen, Mulheim) Mosel, Germany) : [Tasting at Schloss Lieser] - Fruity, easy going. RS 18 g/l. Long finish, very enjoyable

Klassische spontane Mosel-Rieslimg-Nase mit Schieferrauch und deutlich reifem Kernobst. Dazu etwas tropisch mit recht reifer Ansnas. Deutlich heftig, etwas nussig. Am Gaumen dazu mit deutlicher Kohlensäure-Prägung, erst deutlichem Zucker, danach aber auch mit schöner Balance durch gut integrierte saftige Säure und sehr dunkle Mineralität. Schöner Zug, läuft und läuft. Mir eine Spur zu breit hinten raus.
