Drytown Cellars Primitivo

A well made is just that. It almost doesn't matter the varietal.

For those of you without teenagers you are probably blissfully unaware of the movie Transformers. The basic plot line is that cars turn into robots; teenagers save the world and also fall in love. Since I have teenagers I not only am aware of the movie, I saw it. There is one scene in the movie that I really liked for its complete deadpan deliver. The protagonist is describing how he arrived at his involvement. His response goes something like …

Picked up barbeque from the local pit. This was a perfect wine for the meal. Rustic, medium bodied, lots of berry flavors. Palate cleansing finish. Much better than the last bottle.

This was a pretty average bottle of wine. Minimal nose, but aromas of berry fruit. Nice flavors of berry, red licorice, tar and smoke. Long lasting pleasant finish. Light bodied.

This bottle stands well on it's own. It is very rich and full bodied to start and has a beautiful round finish. It stands out with rich tomato based broths.

This still young but drinkable now wine is hard to compare to anything else because of it's unique texture and flavor notes. It is remarkable with a red sauce based dish or on its own. I imagine this wine will age wonderfully. Even though young, the tannins are not overbearing nor astringent in quality. Flavors include chocolate and smoke right out of the gate with a lingering dark berry finish. Remarkably different from the 03 vintage. Primitivo is the genetic …
