Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken, Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spatlese Nr7, Mosel

Full yellow at first, then actually lightened. Marvelous aromas of honey, melon, apple, and a touch of petrol. Light but wonderfully concentrated. Just off dry, not the Auslese + sweetness that Spatlesen carry currently nor any of the honey on the nose. Remarkably fresh and fine-it just went on and on, steadily improving with air. Distinguished wine that is performing magnificently at age 26.

Lovely nose of pear and flowers with apricot. Not very concentrated or especially complicated and benefits from some additional air. Great value though, drink now to 5 years. Medium to low acidity.

Oh dear. 4 bottles in a row heavily oxidized with thick black mold covering the top of the cork (which were soaked through). I braved a sip - heavy kerosene and lip-puckering tart green apple skin. Not good - clearly bottle variation as other cases have been ok.

Light golden. Lots of kerosene on the nose with mellow quince jam undertones. A bit tired palate, sharpish acidity, earth and old leaves, with the fruit seemingly died out. Admittedly, I could only taste it on the second day after opening, but by then it was obviously way over the hill.

Some aged Rieslings to beat the heat (Tac-Quick, Chicago IL) : nose: fresh and lively nose of green apples, pears, petrol, white florals, sweet citrus tones, as well as bits of mangoes and papayas. Excellent depth and the tropical fruits emerge a bit with a bit of air taste: very mineral driven with a fat medium/full feel and medium/high acidity showing off the youth of the wine.
