Mushrooms, earth and subtle berries of dark cherry and strawberries. On the palate is balance with a velvet fruit profile somewhere between red and black with some vanilla/ripe sweetness; this gives way to a baking spice and strawberry long finish. Excellent wine and drinking well now.

Decanted 2 hrs (again unintentionally). I think in retrospect this was too long. Consider a much shorter decant is in order.

One word on this wine-balance! Nose of tilled earth of mushrooms and tyme herbs with plums and stone fruit. It went well with our mushroom risotto and balsamic salad. It combined in a nuanced waltz of beauty -not one specific characteristic but a combination of acid, tannins, fruit, terroir, and length of finish. Great wine.

Decanted 3.5 hrs before drinking (not my original intention). A magnificent complexed nose and delightful palate. It is a baby now, with a slight imbalance of tannins over fruit, but will have one every year and report back.

Whereby the Burn Cottage 2019 shows a more focused and Cote de Nuits style of wine, this is certainly more relaxed Cote de Beaune style, with a slightly more expressive nose of strawberries, raspberries, red florals, spring flowers, wild herbs, mocha and vanilla. The palate is medium bodied, showing both richness and succulent red fruit, milk chocolate, crushed florals, along with bigger more structured tannins, a soft yet persistent mid palate leads to a medium weighty finish.

Bright, jammy red fruits. Quite primary but decent thickness and richness for an NZ pinot. Mouthfilling with zippy acids. Should cellar well for 5-7 years.

I've been tasting some of the best Pinot Noirs that New Zealand has to offer - e.g. Felton Road, Escarpment, Dry River, Ata Rangi... - and this one might be the most impressive of them all. Dark cherry and plum fruit, a tinge of cranberry, black tea, sage, bay leaf and mushroom finishing with sweet vanilla and toast. Oak is deftly integrated. Has a Clos Vougeot vibe in terms of weight and texture. It is definitely Pinot Noir, but it …
