Paul Dethune, Rose Brut Grand Cru

For the pizza, I opened a 2009 Fèlsina CCR Rancia. I had some concern about the warm vintage, but the wine was handled beautifully. It showed more red fruited density than in other years, yet still carried the classic Rancia structure. A perfect match for pizza, and a bargain for what I payed.

blend: Pinot Noir 80%, Chardonnay 20% base vintage: 2019 thin bubble stream. salmon, pink, in color. initial aromas of grapefruit and cherry. opening to, strawberry, blood orange, lime, lemon, pomegranate, mineral, chalk. citrus mousse, cherry skin, juicy red apple, on the finish. consume: now - 2029

Pre-2000s New World (Peach Blossom) : Candied nose, unripe peach and strawberry, quite sweet on the palate too. Not a fan, felt stodgy.

Pre-2000s new-world night : Brought as an aperitif. 2004 base, 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, disgorged February 2012. Almost saignee in colour; sweet, rich and toasty style of champagne. Fresh and youthful cherry fruit; better with food and reminded me of drinking a Aperol Spritz on a summer day.

Rich red fruits with an aggressive sprinkle of cooking spices. It drinks very fresh despite the concentration of the fruit on the palate. Was fantastic with roast duck over rice.

2018 base, composed of 80% Pinot noir, 20% Chardonnay. 50% reserve wines, disgorged July 2021. Lovely light pink color. First sip is a rush of ripe summer strawberries and light watermelon. Very nice finishing acid, a lovely texture as well. A really nice rose.

This drinks like An $80 bottle. Great stuff!

Still solid.

Opened, poured, and a bit tart and tight at first sip. After a while it mellows out slightly. Still not sweet and pretty much along the lines of my 7/16/2021 note. This was a fairly neutral setting, so nothing to distract or skew the taste. Maybe it is just what I am used to or prefer, but for my taste this could use just a bit more dosage. October, 2018 disgorgement.

Better than the last bottle, not as sweet.

Drank this after a bottle of Chablis. I found it a bit tart and sweet. A little much for my taste. 5 more bottles so we’ll see how these evolve.

Better once open an hour

We hosted another wine dinner for charity : Pinot-heavy NV Rosé. Fresh and delicious, if it's not already my house rosé, it should be.

Easy going and friendly, but also tasty.

Another corked one. Ugh

Disgorged October, 2018: Nice bubbles, great mouthfeel. Not sweet; some red berry/pinot influence in taste. Good, but not consistent with most other notes. I probably should have this without food, but it was consumed with various appetizer-type foods (spicy, cheese, salty, etc) and I think they made it difficult to appreciate this wine. Definite miscalculation on my part. I have several more bottles, so next time will have on its own.

Charity wine dinner; Rosé, Champagne, old/new Barolo, Sauternes, Port (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA) : I sabered this one for entertainment. While it's tough to follow an '06 Taittinger Comtes BdB, this pinot-heavy rosé easily held its own. Graceful, charming, delicious. The next time I see this for a reasonable price, I'm buying six cases, and when I can't fit them in my cellar, I’ll get a pickax and shovel and bury them in my yard.

80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay; 50% reserve wines; bottled April 2017 (so 2016 base?), disgorged November 2019. Round but dry, fine mousse, pinoty. Not the most powerful or complex rose but tasty for sure.

Like the Lanessan, this was gone pretty quickly, and I wasn't able to spend much time with it. This seemed nice and friendly, with enough complexity to keep it interesting and acidity to make it refreshing.

Oh. Yum. This is just perfect. Lovely fruit, gentle bubbles and a delightful mouthfeel. Will definitely get again.

Old Faithful. My cellar is never without this wine. Fresh and fragrant, balanced and beautiful. Always a great accompaniment to flavorful meals. October 2018 disgorgement.

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 hours -- -- 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay -- -- June 2019 disgorgement -- NOSE: medium-light, airy, aromatics dominated by a light red berry/Pinot character. BODY: medium bodied; pinkish-salmon color. TASTE: not austere; dosage or natural sweetness is noticeable; red berry; Ashley found it to be a bit syrupy-tasting; very nice, but a bit bigger/sweeter than I (we) prefer. Not a re-buy for me.

In keeping in tune with my note of two years ago, a couple years aging did benefit this wine (though it appeared cloudy through the clear glass bottle). Full salmon color; soft and sweet nose of raspberry, a bit autolytic, very relaxed and pleasing. While lacking complexity, it’s a very nice warm weather treat.

Yeasty, little red berries, citrus, dry and bright

October 2018 Disgorgement. Better than ever. Gorgeous salmon pink color. Pinot dense; strawberry and cherry, great texture. I love this wine.
