The July 2020 disgorgement of Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères was one of the best bottles I’ve opened this year. Dense, lush, perfectly balanced and just flat-out delicious. Apricot, dark berries, citrus, chalk, cinnamon, ginger, and a finish that seemed to last all night.

An incredibly intense Champagne. Broad layer of autolytic notes. Fruit of bruised apple and pear. Interlaced with minerality and playful spices and herbs. A light-footed palate with vibrant acidity and a thicc mid-palate.

Disgorged 2020, 75 months on lees. Over shadowed on the 2015 millesime. Leaner and higher mineral feeling, more acid driven than fruit.

Another outstanding Crayères that highlights why it is my favorite cuvée from E-O. Nearly 80 year old Grand Cru Ambonnay vines in the hands of a master. Stunning bottle.

Beautiful, powerful and elegant! Appearance: deep lemon with fine, persistent mousse Nose: Medium+ intensity. Ripe apple, baked apple, lemon curd, brioche, toast, almond, chalk Palate: Dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium+ body, medium+ intensity. Flavours of baked apple, citrus, brioche, toasted nuts, chalk Finish: Long Conclusion: Outstanding quality. Complex, structured, with strong ageing potential

LDeep golden color with hints of cooper. Intense complex and zesty. Full bodied fine bubbles and perfectly balanced acidity and length

Others liked this a lot more than I did, and had it as a contender for the Wine of the Night alongside Guillaume Selosse and Ulysse Collin. I certainly did not consider it to be in that same tier. That is not to say that there are not a number of attractive traits. The nose is fleshy and almost tropical in its fruit profile, oxidative but with this odd aroma that I can only describe as astringent. The palate had …

Golden and complex, a solid pulse of acidity to keep the richness in check. Delicious.
Taster #6167 · Mar 1, 2026
Home-drinking, Singapore. July 2014 disgorgement and presumably 08 base partially. Mousse is still vivavicous with deep gold colour. Signature mirabelle plum notes on the nose interlaced with sherry-like oxidative notes. Zaffron and spices also present. Best for carefully chosen food pairings. At the peak of its evolved phase.

This bottle appears to be based on the 2010 vintage (backwards math from back label- disgorged in July 2015 after 48 months on the lees). Beautiful medium copper appearance. Fully evolved (and slightly oxidized) nose of honied stone fruit, lemon zest, spice and slight autolytics. Very complex and fresh in spite of the slight oxidization. The acid is still there on the palate. Medium bodied with a medium plus to long finish. Just delicious. This bottle is now 15 years …

On the nose vanilla, peach, sourdough bread, marsipan. Taste smooth, balanced, green apple, not that much brioch. Absolutely brilliant!

Dark pink hue, bold on the palate with lots of acidity balancing intense apple. Very fine bubbles. Very smooth.

Nose: Powerful and resonating! Red apples, baked lemon, biscuits, toasted nuts, and hint of almonds and something floral. Palate: Rich and powerful! Baked citrus, stone fruit, almonds. Veeery slight bitter aftertaste, but it certainly does not detract. Long aftertaste that leaves you wanting more! Brilliant! I think this might be the best reference ever for a N.V. Profundly solid!

Bruised apple, lemon curd, honey and yeasty/funky (in a good way). Honey and nutty notes came to fore with more air. Fine bubbles (although not as fine as some tete de cuvees) and medium-full bodied (relative to other champagnes).

Assignment: Not Bordeaux-post-UGC dinner (Zuni Cafe, San Francisco CA) : This is a more recent bottling and it was flowing from the get go with baked red apples, quince, roasted nuts, yellow flowers, brioche, biscuits, toast, nougat, poached pears, and vanilla beans. There is excellent depth and interplay between the citrus and autolytic notes. The Medium bodied feel is robust, dense, and yet balanced with racy, high acidity that shows off excellent cut. As always, it’s a treat to have …

Intense and powerful nose of florals, red fruit, ginger and honey. The palate is quite good, having developed an interesting tertiary honeyed nuttiness with a textured, supple roundness, but it seemed to lack liveliness and dynamism. A bit too static and one-note, though it does persist and is quite long. A nice, oxidative-styled wine. Disgorged on October 2015, elevage for 75 months, presumably a blend of 2008 and 2009 fruit.

Notes of bakery bread lemon zest and tart apple. Fuller bodied paired well with a cheese pizza. Very interesting with the low dosage, but not for everyone (my partner did not enjoy as much)

A 2019 disgorgement, which I think means it is made with wine from the 2012 and 2011 vintages. It tastes more evolved than that, really, although (at least for now) that's a good thing. Deepish straw colour, and deep also on the nose, which is savoury, full of grilled nuts, dough and gingery spice, and somewhat oxidative like a bubbly LDH white. There's intensity and bright acidity on the palate that gives it the character of lime pickle, ample chew …

Deep and expressive, opening with lemon curd, ripe apple and brioche, followed by subtle hazelnut and citrus oil. Broad and layered on the palate, showing ripe fruit richness held in check by good acidity and chalky structure. Texture is dense and vinous rather than frothy, with savoury undertones emerging with air. The finish is the standout — long, dry, and persistent, with a gentle phenolic grip and saline lift. Became more lush and expansive over time and proved excellent with …

Champagnes at Gilmore : 2017 base. 100% Pinot Noir. Disgorged Oct 2025, 1g/l dosage. The only universally-liked champagne between the two camps of fans of linear champagnes vs a richer style. Hedonistic without lacking freshness or complexity, but had some oxidative notes that made me think this was from the mid-'00s. Would drink these now.

Disgorged 07/22 - 2015 base vintage. Opened three hours prior to tasting. Stunning bottle - luscious red fruit, nicely structured, hedonistic. This would be great with a nice cut of beef. Quite open right now and will last for some time, but to my palate this edition is not a 30-year champagne.

Base 2004. Disgorged 2009. Golden, almost amber, in the glass. Power and elegance. Butter, vanilla, toast, crushed apples and honey. An almost everlasting aftertaste. Truly great.

Drinking this is near what scratching the outer edge of the atmosphere of our own existential plane must taste like: lemons rind, walnuts, ocean spray, and transcendental bliss commingled with fear. Such a beautiful expression of pinot noir grapes. Mine was disorged in '23 and could age beautifully. But why waste something so beautiful? Enjoyed with a burger, french fries and garlic aioli.

Christmas 2025; 12/24/2025-12/26/2025 (Bosham, E Dulwich, Muswell Hill) : Disgorged 2021 (so principally 2016 base) and still remarkably fresh. There's barely any dosage so you're exposed to the full force of this vinous, concentrated wine. Intense and relatively savoury, still feeling so youthful, zesty and vital. A serious wine - probably too serious for the occasion, really.

Christmas 2025 at Chateau L; 12/23/2025-12/26/2025 (Chez moi) : Mmmm, up a grade. Probably more challenging for civilians than the Billecart but this was right up my street. Tremendous nose as other reviewers have mentioned, really fresh and inviting. Deep and rich on the palate, expressive and fruity, this is a cerebral champagne, one to comtemplate and muse upon rather than toast with and knock back. Quite lovely, and amazing for the outlay, I've had far more expensive champagne that …

2018 degorgement. The star of the Christmas dinner. Happy to have shared this with my parents. I had the 2015 degorgement 2 years ago and this again blew my mind. I need to make sure I always have this in my cellar. This is very special.

2025 Christmas wines (Wellington NZ) : Four years on the lees. Disgorged in July 2016. I understand 70% pinot noir, 30 percent chardonnay and based on the 2011 vintage, with 50% reserve wines from 2010, 2009 and 2008. Sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay. Bright deep gold with fine, persistent bead. Rich and complex aromatics. A yeasty, toasty, somewhat oxidative, full bouquet. Marmalade on buttered toast, apricot, peach, mandarin, oats, raspberries and strawberries with underlying …

12/22 disgorgement, so 2017 vintage base. Not as impressive as other, vintage based disgorgements.
Taster #7526 · Nov 24, 2025
Base 2016, disgorged december 2021. 53 months sur lie, 1g/L dosage. Very dry, oxidative, and nutty. The nuttiness comes through as more of a walnut skin note than rich, roasted nuts,. It didn't quite reach the level of my previous bottle, and it was probably served a little too late on a wet night. I'll save my remaining bottle another year or two.

This bottle was almost certainly the a late 24 disgorgement so based on the 2019 vintage defined with 50% reserve wines from 2018 and 2017. 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, Around 2 grams per litre dosage. The full, rich Egly style, and really a food champagne. Youthful and like all good NV champagne will certainly improve with age. Not my preferred style but Egly has become a very impressive house and now priced accordingly
