100% Mayolet, a real oddball. Rocks and bark. And ash! What a fabulously interesting wine. Light-bodied (akin to a Poulsard from the Jura), with a super pure nose of little red fruits and bitter bark; very Pinot-like in that regard, though it's definitely its own thing. It comes across as light and delicate with admirable restraint and a fair amount of funk on the palate, practically no tannins to speak of, and there's that ash note. Very cleansing and refreshing. …

Nose: earth and leather, quite Burgundian in character. Taste: leather, metallic, spice. On the acid side, refreshing. A bit bitter aftertaste.

If this were a blind tasting, I would have guessed this wine to be a Beajuolais Fleurie. Bright floral perfume notes with an effervescent sweetness. A short finish. A nice $17 wine for a summer afternoon but lacks the structure, depth and complexity to stand up to a proper meal.
