Back to a much fresher style with this bottle - really enjoyed by all. I wonder why the variation?

Slight evolution compared to the previous bottles, more nutty, less fresh fruit, still nice acidity, very rich, lots going on. I’m slightly surprised how quickly this is evolving, but perhaps that is bottled variation. Will follow with interest.

From a half. Now golden and certainly mature, but rich, generous and delicious with food, if you like this style. In halves drink up but larger formats should go on.

Tasted at the winery. By far too young, not all elements in balance right now. Complex nose with dominant lemon and apple notes, not as complex as 2022 or 2020. Remarkable acidity which kind of dominates the finish. Not sure whether 2023 will get to the same opulence and complexity as the 2020.

Little to add to the previous note. Very much the fresh, fruit driven, young style of this wine, but gives so much pleasure, and there is real underlying complexity. If you enjoy in that style, don’t wait.

Interesting to see the gaps between the tasting notes. I wanted something with a bit of body and complexity and bearing in mind the age and the lack of clarity this was still pretty impressive. Good acidity, presumably from the Chenin Blanc element and enough body to make it interesting still if very much on its last legs.

I love this southern French white. Great depth of flavour, and some real complexity for what is a very young wine. The acidity is there to balance the richness, and the the finish goes on and on. It’s not typical - in the sense that it is such mixture of grapes, but it gives a lot of pleasure.

Yes, it was on its edge, but beautifully balanced, definitely enjoyed the wine, The hint of the age was balanced by a note of apricot and apple.

A magnificent Mas de Daumas Gassac vertical from the private cellars of Allard Jakobs (Restaurant Sinck, Amsterdam, NL) : Magnum. Deeper and richer style than both the 2013 and 2011, deeper colour too, honeyed, flowing and energetic.

Still alive. Golden, touch of amber. Clearly mature but in a good way. The Viognier very much to the fore, all apricot and ripe peach. Touch of fresh citrus fruits Plenty acidity and good length. Flavours of ripeness and dark dried fruits. Complex and intriguing but probably at or very near the end game.

From glass, last of the bottle. Light orange-brown cider color, dark specs of sediment. An advanced nose, but also tart, cidery apple, light petrol, and finally also caramel. Still a living wine then, and on the palate too; less intensity, but pulses once or twice in the midpalate and shows a bit of its former, more acidic self. There is a sequence of mild dishes over which I could have enjoyed a bottle of this, including a poached white fish, …

FWS Languedoc Roussillon Class 2020; 7/14/2020-7/15/2020 : Not sure the exact blend on this. The back of the bottles says equal parts Viognier, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Petit Manseng. The website says something very different for this vintage, so who knows. When first opened the color stands out, gold, bright gold. The nose also smells sweat, this blew off after it had been open for a while, I should have decanted it. Baked Apples, jasmine, and honeysuckle. This taste like …

Now this is lovely! From the King of Languedoc! This lovely Blanc is a blend of Chardonnay and Viognier and a splash of Petit Manseng and Chenin Blanc. Light gold amber, its quite refreshing with bits of honey, apricot, citrus and floral elements.

Certainly in its autumn years, still managing enough to appreciate. This PnP had a darkish hay color, was clear. Soft yellow fruits, a touch spicy, and even a sheen of wax at times. Herbal, with some stony soil, adding interest. A pleasure to see this at this stage, but I'll probably stick to drinking future bottles a little earlier. NR

Survivor! Golden, touch of amber. Clearly mature but in a good way. The Vignier very much to the fore, all apricot and ripe peach. Plenty acidity and good length. Flavours of ripeness and dark dried fruits. Worth keeping this one back. Much more complex and intriguing but probably a more enjoyable drink when younger.

OMG, what a stunner! Dark deep yellow color. it was decanted an hours before and drank over 2 hours. Aromas of honey, orange marmalade and dried apricots. Great structure, beautifully balance of acidity and fruits, oily ands buttery finish. Should have a few more years left before reaching the end of its drinking window.

This was intriguing. Opened late evening after a jazz concert. Lovely, rich and refreshing. Rich, thick texture, honey and apricot, some citrus, some floral element. Colour light gold. then almost immediately went into decline, more oxidised, darker colour, touch of amber. One day later, back to light gold and fresh again, in fact citrus notes more apparent. Another day further on, much the same, maybe a little more elegance and finesse. Very nice indeed. Wasn't this a strange one but …

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #109; Vertical of 10 vintages Mas de Daumas Blanc plus some other whites. (By DJ) : Almost orange color. In the bouquet a bit oxidized, nuts, dry honey and sherry flavors. The same impressions on the palate, herbs and spices like clove as well. Almonds and grapefruit including its bitters. Beautiful, special and complex wine.

TOUR DE FRANCE : ( Viognier - Petit Manseng - Chardonnay - Chenin Blanc) Affinato in acciaio. Ceroso, frutta secca e mallo di noce. Caramella mou, quasi l' amaro dell' affumicato. Molto preciso e cristallino.

Honeyed and golden in colour, nose is dark, rich marmalade, dried apricots and fruit gums, slightly resinous, but still pronounced and luscious and the Viognier-oiliness pretty full on. Similar flavour profile on the palate, becoming creamier, and softer over time. with a hint of toffee. After nearly twenty years and a good hour's decanting, it's startling how concentrated and rich this still is, as well as retaining a perfect balance, alcohol and acidity both soft enough and a pleasant buttery …

As a long term fan of various vintages of this wine, I am just starting to tire a bit of the at times obtrusive banana notes. As previously I thought this was a little hot. Still a good wine. Maybe a case of familiarity breeding contempt...

The nose is lovely and interesting, like golden raisins. Rand gets a prune-like taste from it, and it is definitely like some kind of dried fruit. Intense bouche, but it lacks acidity to give it real interest and life and lift. This was probably lovely a few years back, but is still interesting for those who like an older white. I would drink it again, but can see why my trusted wine guide says this is best within the first …

This is my last bottle and about as far as I'd dare age it. A pretty mid-gold colour followed by a nose both honied and honey-suckle-like. Also something herbal. Almost an impression of sweetness but at the same time the beginning of a hollowed out palate. I think this would become obviously dried out within a year, but at present it is a fascinating balance.
