Big, bold and beautiful! This Aussie Shiraz has it all… complexity (nose & palate), structure, balance and pairs wonderfully with lamb. The finish is long smooth and wants you coming back for more. I’ve had a lot of Velvet Hlives over the years and the 2018 vintage is to shelf!

Very youthful and tannic with purity of fruit that bodes well for the next decade+. Excellent.

just like notes of 3/20/2016, we paired this with smoked ribs and brisket - was an outstanding compliment - still holding well

Mollydooker's Velvet Glove is as much a style as it is a varietal. If you like big and bold this is your kind of wine, because this is a massive Shiraz that envelops every taste bud with a velvety richness that goes on and on. On both my nose and palate there's copious amounts rich black cherries, chocolate, black currants, licorice, espresso, baking spices, some cooked plums, cedar and garrigue. The 16% ABV brings heat upon opening, but dissipates as …

Excellent. Notes of chocolate and bark. Lasting finish in back of the palate. Decanted for a bit over an hour and opened beautifully. Just a delicious wine.

I've previously put off having my one and only bottle of this, waiting for the right time, but that time has come. Really smooth and balanced, yet alcohol lurking. Thick without seeming so, extracted deep fruit without palate crushing presence. Cork intact and slightly wet, top end of the cork was sealed in wax that I cracked off to open, and that end is green with possible mold, but only there. Inky black purple. This has such a unique flavor, …

Wonderful. More refined than Blue Eyed Boy but still retaining some of the “punch”. Sublime. Chocolate and pepper notes. Hint of mint. Will buy again.

consistent with notes of 3/20/2016 - in a flight of 3 "bold" reds that included SQN and Schrader...wasn't quite up to those staggering wines, but was still fabulous.

This is a classically bold Mollydooker Velvet Glove edition, big and bold with aromas of blackberries, black current, black cherries, cooked plums, raisins, cedar, spices and mocha. It's full bodied with most elements (acidity & tannins) in balance. There's a bit of heat upon opening, but that dissipates over time. On my palate detected black cherries, blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, espresso, baking spices, cedar, herbs, licorice, and mocha. It has a long finish with a nice grip on the …

Bold and opulent wine, showcasing intense aromas of black fruit, vanilla, and dark chocolate. With a rich, full-bodied palate, velvety texture, and well-integrated tannins, it delivers a good experience.

Evolved quite a bit over two days. The flavors were good with medium complexity and the tannins mellowed after decanting and being open for several hours. The fruits are probably fading and I think it would have been more enjoyable 12 months ago.

Popped the cork and soon re-stoppered because our menu suddenly changed from burgers to sushi. So finally, after 24 hours open, what strikes me the most is how this is still drinking just like it did 4 years ago. Of course, it is still that hedonistic-chocolate-lava cake of a wine that is as close to vintage port as it is to dry, so it could be used as a dessert wine for all practical purposes. And I thought I would …

Drinking well now. Lovely nose of black fruit, dried herbs and smoked bacon. If you're drinking Mollydooker you better know what you came for - on the palate this is highly extracted. Bordering on "too sweet" but not quite. Definitely a style that could be polarizing. That said, there is some additional complexity/minerality that stops this from being an out-and-out fruit bomb.

Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, raisins, dried figs, alcohol, licorice, vanilla, cedar, cola, spices, milk chocolates, tobacco and peppercorn. Full bodied, smooth and bold, with medium acidity and long legs. On the palate black currants, cooked plums, sweet cherries, vanilla, spices, cedar, espresso, cola, light herbs, licorice, mocha and red chili pepper. Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Shiraz from Australia. Big …

Great wine, great balance. Decanted 2 hours was great. Started to fall off after hour 7. Not an overdone aussie shiraz, with great intensity but very pure fruit. At around hour 4-5 it was best, displaying more meaty notes and pepper along with very concentrated black-fruit reduction. Top quality and easy to drink now. Buy more 94+

Should have let it breathe, too warm initially. Then settles down to being a typical Molly but not having all of the magic of some vintages.

This has one of the biggest, longest noses I have ever smelled. Super intense, red fruit, hot nose, spice, vanilla. On the palate, this is a fruit explosion - raspberry, blackberry, stewed plums, vanilla, spice, and a creaminess. Medium body, just enough tannins, and just enough acidity- this is all about the fruit. Definitely heat there from the 16% ABV. I wonder if this is the kind of wine that Johnny Depp drinks every day? The cool thing about (great) …

My selection for the last CWG-D. I handled it in the way describe below after emailing the winery and talking to KR3 (Mr. Rombauer). 3:00pm opened and left inside the cellar upright 3:15pm placed in the decanter 3:45pm back into the bottle and back to the cellar 4:00pm placed in the wine-bag and to the restaurant… 5:55pm the wine was served and the tasting began: The color is dark ruby almost purple, the nose is strong with bacon fat and …

This bottle not so good, tastes like raspberry syrup. Very disappointing when you've been storing and anticipating drinking a wine, especially when its not inexpensive and it disappoints. Part of the wine drinking experience. If you've never seen this wine, it comes in a black velvet bag and the label is black velvet as well.

First time experience with the velvet glove. It did not disappoint! I could go on and on about how this blew everyone away at last night's dinner. Personally, I love the enormous fruit on the nose and mid palate. Black fruits dominate. Then is framed with a fantastic tannin and acid balanced back bone. Fun wine! But steep at 180.00 for price of admission. Great special occasion wine!

Garnet color with gentle browning of the edges. Monster nose. Wine is dark and brooding with massive fruit still. Lead pencil, spice, and oak. Everything is in harmony. Not too sweet like a lot of Aussie Shiraz. Alcohol is a bit hight but this wine is aging gracefully! I'll revisit in 5 more years, should be amazing.

Upon open there was an offensive odor and taste. Hard to distinguish. I decanted and checked 30 minutes later. Still present. Decided to put it back in the bottle and off to the restaurant with a backup bottle. Hoping. Decanted at restaurant and let it sit through first two courses. When our steaks were served it was beautiful. No odor just that typical blue and black fruit of Shiraz. Wonderful nose and 20 second finish. Nice balance. No heat. Great …

Deep dark purple in color. Notes of Blackberry, vanilla, licorice, and pepper on nose and palate. Dry, med+ body, nice acidity, elegant tannins. This wine is not all about the packaging, but it is still impressive. Very big, and still very young. Straight out of bottle was a fruit bomb. But after some time decanting started to mellow out. Will be great in another 5 years.
