Unusually yellowish for a GV, but the white pepper scent is right on target. Slender Federspiel entry, but the midpalate is a bit squeaky (mouthfeel weirdly like that squeaky feeling you get after washing the shampoo out of your hair) and more oily/fat than the fruit/mineral concentration and alcoholic strength (12%) imply. Perhaps the old cask maturation was a bit too much for the basic juice? Not much of a finish. As always with Knoll a quality product, fairly priced …

Found a cork popped half the way out of a bottle in the wine fridge so I opened it. No noticeable problems with the bottle and the same notes and score as last time. 86 points.

Gruner Veltliner Tasting (7 wines) (New Buffalo, Michigan) : This was the only federspiel wine in our tasting. The other bottles being smaragd level ripeness. I have had this wine a few times with consistent notes. Dark green/yellow color. This had a little fat to it. White fruit notes with a lean finish. Not as deep as the other gruve's. Still a pleasing wine. 86-87 points.

Appetising and fresh, an exemplary simple, crisp, lightweight GV, not to be confused with the glories of the Smaragd wines from the same producer. Suitable for fish or white meat with complicated sauces, or perhaps a Wiener Schnitzel, but surprisingly thin with cheese. 86P

As noted by VM, peach and minerality come through clearly. A tad disjointed on the finish, with a faint plastic note. Probably a little past its ideal drinking window.

Ein sehr gut gelungenes Federspiel mit wrzig-fruchtigem Aromen, am Gaumen Fenchel und viel Apfelfrucht. Ldt zu einem zweiten Glas ein!

I've had this a couple times now. I bought a case for on closeout. My wife and I visited this winery back in 2005. knoll has a reputation for making long lived wines but this federspiel is more of a drink within a few years after release wine. Dry with a lush texture. Notes of peach, mineral and some white pepper. Solid acidity. 88 points.

Nice crisp Grüner Veltliner. Ideal with the Cheese-Fondue. Good QPR.
