Domaine Huet, Vouvray, Mont Moelleux

Orange, good balance between acidity and sweetness.

Dark yellow. Aromas of dried yellow fruits and honey. Sweet, fruity and savoury on the palate. Has lost some weight during the last years, and now appears more elegant.

Burnt sugar, flowers, honey and white fruits. A very lively acidity despite its age. I think these are more or less imortal.

Found my last remaining bottle. This one definitely not corked. Amber orange. Soaked cork. Apricot with hint of soy or mushroom on the nose. Thick wine that's obviously sweet but at same time drying with almost tin/tinfoil texture to mouth (is this the acid level?). Some oxidation here I think. Short to medium finish. A somewhat peculiar wine. If only it was under Stelvin screwcap and stored underground in the Antarctic for last 24 years!

Amber/orange colour. Wet cork to end. Slight ullage. Muted nose of glace fruits/grilled pineapple rings. Medium sweetness with some thickness, low acid but wine feels a tad stripped. Super short finish. I think this is subtly corked putting this all together. Not undrinkable by any means by I feel I'm getting the skeleton and not the flesh of the wine.

I remember tasting this wine in the mid 2000s leaving me with a big question mark swinging over my head ... absolutly austere, uncharming. Hardly recognizable that there's residual sugar in it. I didn't want to make this mistake again and waited more than ten further years (tasting date above is not correct - it was in 2017) for my next bottle. Obviously a good decision: stunning wine with huge minerality and complexity. Gorgeous sweetness-acidity balance. That's why Chenin Blanc …

Mature aromas of mushrooms, dried yellow fruits and botrytis. Fresh, delicious and savoury. A monumental wine, with high acidity. Great wine!

WSET Diploma Semester 1 Block B; 9/8/2014-9/11/2014 : Pronounced, developing nose, notes of orange peel, mango, banana, honey, wet wool, blossom, honey suckle, pineapple, spiced orange. Med-Sweet, high acid, pronounced intensity, notes of apple, pear, lemon, grapefruit, orange, orange oil, mango, nectarine, hay, pineapple. Outstanding wine.

Pale gold. Lovely fresh tropical fruit flavours (pineapple, kiwi) with underlying citric acidity. Slight botrytis, light body not overly sweet. Excellent 4/5 (90-94)

Magnum Madness 2011! (Marshall's place) : Really awesome fruit aromas, with richness that is obvious. The aromas just smell sexy and lush. The palate expresses tart fruit with pleasing balance still. The finish is the pure extract of fresh fruit, primarily pineapples. Quite light on its feet for a Moelleux, but really impressive. Drink these if you have them, but I also don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

Chris L's 'Minor Burgundy' Offline (RSJ, London) : A vin de liqueur nose. Rich but not particularly sweet or, for that matter, particularly pleasant. Somewhat medicinal. Not the best and then some. *1/2
