ABV: 14.0%. 50% Merlot, 30% Tempranillo, and 20% Grenache (according to WA review). Never had a Montsant this old so I didn't know what to expect, but this wine turned out to be a good surprise. The nose leaned more towards the herbacious side (think Mediterranean herbs) than fruits, but there were plenty of fruit on the palate. The mouthfeel of this wine is silky-smooth with well-integrated acidity that lifts the mélange of fruits (think plums, strawberries, cherries, etc.). There's …

Thought this would be dead but it actually still drank reasonably well for a 2! Year old inexpensive Spanish red. Definitely some rainy prune notes on the nose but also some interesting cigar box notes. Dark purple and still vibrant in the glass with a bricking / clear rim. Some dried fruit and leather on the palate with a pleasant finish.

Elegant but close to the end of its life. I really enjoy this wine but it is not as big as I would have expected for a Spanish wine. I will need to consume my last two bottles within the next few months.

Lovely wine with marinated flank steak and sublime Space Oddity rehearsal. Mature garnet. Fruit still exists but probably will not for many more years. Integrated tannins. Don't be duped by 'only' a 90 - this is lovely wine.

interesting wine, really liked the green olive component. Seems to be fading slightly but still fairly vibrant.

This was a very good wine and likely deserving of a couple more points...in fact, I've decided not to rate it, as I think that I was just not in the mood for it and so, would hate to discount it's integrity. I can say that I've had two prior bottles that, from what I can recall, flirted with Outstanding. The blend of Merlot, Tempranillo & Granache is very creative and well-matched, considering the region. It was well-balanced with just …

Wow, 1st day was so-so, so I saved it for the next day, but 2nd and 3rd day it was just amazing. Nose of molasses, raisins, minerals, olives, mouthfeel has weight, however, lacks a long finish, but really enjoyable.

Drinking beautifully, with sweet, dark cherry, spice, anise flavors, beautifully balanced, fine tannins. Loved it!

I'm not going to rate this one because the merlot dominates, I guess, and I have problems tasting merlot. Parker gave it a 93 and I would rate it in mid 80s if I scored it. Iniitally it's dominated by oak with some darker fruit flavors. After about 45 minutes I got some pencil shavings, which I guess is the grenache peeking through. I never tasting the smooth, cherry tempranillo flavors. The tannins have resolved. There's so many grenache wines …

This wine is in its drinking window. Great nose with olives, black licorice and cassis. Full bodied attack that is seamless and a medium length finish. Seems to have the stuffing to go for a few years.

A good food wine. Vaseline/petrol nose out of the bottle, earthy. Prune nose as it opens up. Firm but calming tannins and structure remains, fruit emerging -- cherries, spice. Medium body. Longish finish. There's life left in this wine but I'd drink over the next 1-2 years.

A little edge but great value for a $20 bottle of wine. Anise, vanilla bean finish. Drank with a grilled ribeye; great combo

After several good bottles this time again just as sweet and flabby as in its youth, with additional barnyard and compost smells lending unwelcome "complexity" 85P

Brought to a BYOB restaurant and popped and poured. Too dark of environment to evaluate color. 50% Merlot, 35% Grenache and 15% Tempranillo aged one year in a mix of new and used French and American oak. Dark red fruits, cedar and a touch of barnyard on the nose. Sour cherry on the palate followed by leather and some earth with mouth drying tannins which are followed by a return of ripe bing cherry on the finish. Very solid QPR …

Surprisingly good. Smoke, grilled herbs (without being green), and red fruits on the nose. The wine actually tastes older than it is (in a good way). Imagine a good, aged Syrah or Grenache-based wine from the Rhone + 10 years. One of the most complex $20 bottles I have enjoyed in a while. Well worth the price tag.
