Domaine des Comtes Lafon 2008 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu: Med ruby with slight watery rim. Floral with a hint of oak. More dark fruit, cherry , fairly balanced with good background acidity. Very nice long finish, expanding but with some weight and concentration. More to go!

BWC Summer Barbecue (Petts Wood) : From magnum. Well - this is lovely, strong acid core, some cherry stone, but oh so 2008. It's not terribly happy, the person in front of it in the queue keeps forgetting their pin number, the garage didn't fix the car properly and the council still hasn't sorted out the potholes. A very 2008 character to this - I wonder if the magnum effect has arrested development a little, and this will open up …

2025 BWC Summer Barbeque Magnums (and half Magnums) (Petts Wood) : Magnum. Citrusy blood orange, rosehip and Rooibos tea on the nose with some peppered plum fruit too. Palate is savoury and minty. Poised and complex. Meaty and long. Peppery tannins. Good stuff.

Good dark garnet color, bit of a lean to brick, a lightly spicy, earthy nose, on the palate nice darker fruit, on the reserved side, not flamboyant but good flavor, acidity is strong but balanced, along with some slightly grippy tannins, a very pleasant, enjoyable wine, particularly with food. Drinking pretty well now, has another decade of life or more.

Dinner with the wine group (Cafe Figaro, Burlingame) : Blind. Aromatic, red fruited, youthful spice, youthful fruit; palate is medium bodied, red fruits, lots of intensity, a bit of darker fruit too; medium-plus finish. 92+

Rock n roll. Fuck yeah. Lotta structure. Over three hours the nose stayed strong and powerful, while the palate went from tannic to mellow. Fantastic wine.

PNP and tracker over many hours Beautiful nose of dark red fruit, chocolate and maple that blows off with time, candied orange peel, a touch of spice and earth. Slightly brooding body with dryish tannins and a dryer finish. Still too young and potential upside from here

Spicy nose with red currant, earthy elements. Precise on the palate but like all Lafon reds a bit too austere. May be its the vintage, may be the producer, may be both. Solid, but I recommend to stick to Lafon's white wines as they are in a completely different league than this red.

On the palate red and dark berries, slightly sticky tannin, chocolate, some brown spiced biscuit and good acidity, Beautiful and refined wine.

Dense with cool red and black fruits. Some orange peel which evolves with time to a really piercing orange note. Palate is similar with deep and tangy fruit, with a spicy finish with some licorice. And very long! This is great but I assume still very young.

this is a very solid wine. lots going on in the nose here, light cherries, rose, slight barn yard. palate is an explosion of flavours, had a tough time pinning them down but it seemed like a layer of saltiness here that was enjoyable and worked well with the fruit falvours. def a winner

hard to say whether this will turn out well, i was interested cuz i've love the 1990 and some other vintages, and cuz the notes referred to this as red fruited, on day one it was oaky and clunky and not good, on day two it had a bit more verve and acid and i did notice red fruits coming forward, then on day three (perhaps it was just gone by then) it was again clunky and oaky... won't rebuy …

a very big floral nose for a medium weight wine. was super enjoyable. i think just entering the drinking window, should drink very well for the next 8yrs or so

what a wonderful wine. loads of aromatic floral notes on the nose. nice weight on the palate with light cherry & strawberry notes with a hint of cloves (i think) on the finish. a great spring wine, should age really well over the next decade

Luftet i 4 timer før konsum. Kraftig Volnay som er myk i inngangen og til midten av smakskurven, men har høy syre/tannin i finish. Minner meg om en god Volnay med en "dash" Barolo. Mulig denne blir bedre med lagring, men er litt usikker på om frukten vil forsvinne før syren. God matvin pr. i dag. Fungerte meget godt til Codino Arrosto (grytestekt kalvemørbrad). Kjøper ikke mer av denne årgangen. 89-90 poeng

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL) : Tasting, brief note. Sweet and fat mostly red fruit on both nose and palate. Very charming spice starting to emerge, floral background notes are classically Volnay. Much better, much more integrated vs last year at this same tasting.

Fresh and pure with a good structure. Not super exciting but good. When thinking of what I paid for this I cannot really justify the cost.

Dinner with Fabrice Amiot (Canton Tastes, Albert Street) : Another baby, a rather brawny one this time - good, but far too young. Blinded, the first instinct said Volnay, what with the wafting floral scents, lovely dark cherry and red berry fruit and a earthy nuances on the nose. Candy floss, strawberry and raspberry on the nose. Tea leaves, liqourice, raspberries, sour cherries and finishes well with dark red fruits.

La Paulée de New York 2011 : Aie. The hail added a terrible bite to this, and Dominique noted he was losing money on this wine. Too sweet, as is the case with much 08 Beaune region wines. Acid, a bit hot, just rough. Ouch.
