Idlewild Nebbiolo Lost Hills Ranch

earthy, bretty, not super aromatic on the nose. Savory Brett and browned cherry on the palate. High tannins - a bit papery and not as chewy as I’d hope for in a Barolo (less tannin development?). Medium plus acid. Nice.

Pop and pour, as it was a last minute selection, but that did not seem to matter, as the wine was quite open from the first sniff/sip. Lots of bright red fruit here, as well as floral aromas, and some warm herbal notes. Seemed more forward that the Fox Hills Nebbiolo bottling, feeling more California, but still with Nebbiolo character. Light to medium bodied, which aligned with the translucent garnet color. Tannins were clearly present but not out of scale …

Warm roof, but not quite tar, florals, anise, touches of oak. Firm tannins, not quite astringent. Some white pepper and zing to it. It’s not something that I think you’d mistake for Barolo or anything like that, but as its own thing, I think it’s very good.
