Was wondering if this would be good or not. Found it hidden away, possibly lost at a liquor store several years ago. Opened the cork at 8am, and let it sit. Decanted around 2pm. Made a big difference. Exceeded exceptions. Wish I had another.

The nose was full of rich smoky aromas and lovely black fruits complemented with leathery and autumnal leaves. The palate was big and punchy a lovely big hit of smoky meats and black fruits. And the finish was absolutely superb wish I had more of this! A stunning wine that was drinking perfectly. And a great accompaniment the chateaubriand I had.

2.5 years+ after the prior: Again lovely notes of leather, and just a pleasing suggestion of funk. Hints of ground pepper. Perhaps lacking a bit in vibrancy — yet this was really lovely, peaking on the second night, but still very nice on the third.

Glass: Zalto Bordeaux and Burgundy Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, deep, inky ruby color with garnet edges and little, fine sediment. Clean, pronounced and developing nose with cassis, tar, oak, spices, dried petals and some barn. Complex and beautiful. On the palate dry, medium+ acidity, very well integrated. High, velvet tannin. Lots of spices, pepper, herbs and tar mixed with some interesting, clear cassis. Beautiful balance and texture, very harmonious, but also deep and dense. Long and …

Decanted 90 minutes. Garnet. Red cherry, fennel, and smokey pepper in the nose. Deep but medium bodied attack running with red fruit and black pepper through the moderate to long finish with resolving tannins.

The 2012 northern Rhone has really come together since my last tasting, 3 years back. It is just spectacular, now. I am looking forward to more.

Smoky, roasted meat, black pepper, old leather. Rather round and somewhat creamy, yet with fine acidity. A pleasant touch of funk. Extremely enjoyable over three nights.

Medium/fudied, with ripe, fresh, crisp red fruits, licorice, smoke and herbs, the wine has soft, supple tannins and plenty of sweet, ripe, peppery fruits in the finish. You can drink this now, or age it for more development.

Deep, still fresh red. Full nose of red fruits. Silky texture, red fruit flavours. Complexity of fruit with tertiary flavours of wood, decay, leaf mould. Long finish. Lovely wine except for a loss of fruit or gain of oak on mid-palate. Needs a lot of aeration.

Used in the Syrah Smackdown tasting. It stood the test quite well. Probably could use a few more bottle years before it peaks, but certainly has good promise.

Still youthful purple. Quite dumb nose with warmth of alcohol and underlying fruit. Silky texture but plenty of body. Sweet fruit. Lots of powdery tannins and fresh acidity. Loses the plot on mid palate and rebounds on a long finish. Try again in 2015. Watch for lots of fine sediment in suspension.

Tasted blind. Purple, blackberry jam, bacon and rhubarb. A bit modern and definitely young. Would wait another 3-4 years at least.

Very powerful nose dominated by animal notes, smokiness, black fruit, and spices. Very powerful wine, still very tannic but smooth, with surprisingly good acidity. Hits you with a jolt of sensations. Very masculine! Not a Valentine's day wine... Amazing wine. Needs decanting to remove sediments. But otherwise ready to drink.

Deep colour. Still retains a Youthful purple tinge. Fruit on nose with herbaceous and herbal overtones. Moderate weight in mouth, fresh acidity with fine but mouth coating tannins. Plenty of fruit and 'stuffing' (but not New World in style). Long finish with lingering fruit flavours.

Great Syrahs and Shirazes (Wine Route Tel Aviv) : Bright ruby color. Much more complex than the '03 – excellent nose with red fruits, earth and farm aromas. Excellent in the palate also, good balance and harmonic. Full bodied but more elegant than the '03.(104$)

Big, generous wine, to smell and to taste. Still a bit too obvious winemaking and oak. Hope to gain more typicity by cellaring. Let it rest until 2015.

Butterscotch aromas over tar and sweet liqueur notes. Shuts down in an hour or so, then completely unyealding. Two days later opened up withour oxidation. A bit too international in style, but will probably cruise nicely in the cellar.
