Marcassin, Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

Repeat of May 2015 note, should have been drunk sooner. Had thrown off deal of sediment which coated teeth and tongue. Could tell this was a lovely wine in its younger days.

Based on tasting notes from 3-5 years ago, should have drunk sooner. No complexity usually associated with Marcassin Vineyard bottlings. One-note, muted fruit, muddled though pleasant. Will drink remaining bottle soon.

Different nose...at times sour cherry almost like cough syrups. Was expecting more from such a proven name. Had this along with an '86 Caymus Cuvee, '75 Latour, and '99 Hartwell at Seagars in Destin with wife and friends. The Latour was in a whole other world. It well out classed the competition and proved great bordeauxs can age well.

This bottle was purchased from the winery upon release. The wine exhibited a deep red center with red rims and only a hint of oranging. The nose was medium intensity right out of the gate. However, both the nose and the flavors in the mouth improved substantially with 4 hours of air. The nose was quite perfumed with violets, raspberries , and some soil. River Oyster Bar w Roberta & David Ehrenreich, and Maria & Charlie Frumkin. David's wine. He hadn't decanted it, and Charlie and I used Vinturi aerator to get it to open. Delicious, but tonight it took second place to 04 Sea Smoke Southing, and was better than 98 Talley Rosemary's V, and 05 Loring Rosella's V.

A different animal from the Burgs, but equally beautiful. Sage, some cola, black cherries, well balanced acid, and vanilla all wrapped in a fine texture. Rich and very well balanced. A brilliant example of American pinot done well. On day two, even fuller, rounder and without any flab or bloom. Precise and rich. A difficult combo for sure, but done very well. No rush to drink this wine.

Roberta & David Errenreich's Dinner Party (Paradise Point, Miami, FL) : At Roberta & David Errenreich's with Bob & Marian Siegel(Central Hardware). This wine ahas a very young medium ruby color. On day one it was pretty tight with red fruits and herbal notes that kept changing. Multiple facets on the nose, but all very short lived. Marcassin Dinner (Zealous Restaurant - Chicago IL) : Bright red fruit on the nose with some emerging earth. Red and black fruit on palate with firm tannins and energetic acidity throughout. The overall balance makes me think this wine has medium-term potential to come out of its primary phase more interesting than what it's showing now. Probably my favorite of tonight's Marcassin Pinot Noirs for its potential.

Initially a dark, Cabernet-like nose with little pinot character other than a muted spicy note under loads of cassis. Tones down quickly to be classic Cali-pinot, but with more that a bit in common with the '99 DRC Vosne-Romanee 1er drank next to it. Spicy oak, sexy red and black cherries, a beautiful sappy sweet note. Full-bodied with a restrained oak influence that comes through more in the tannins than anything else. Superb. ****/5

Dark brooding colour. Nice nose with mocha fruits and cherries. Slight cassis'ed edge to this wine. Very rich. Good body with balanced structure. Good elements of cherries, almonds, some caramel. Certainly enjoyable, less agressive than I expected. Very nice with meat course.

Dinner at Rubicon and a surreal pre-tasting (San Francisco, CA) : This had such a difficult act to follow, not really fair. The nose was clearly new world in comparison to the stunning pair of Leroy's with raspberry, chambord, caramel and eventually some funky, cherry-inspired notes that screamed Pinot.
