Funky, meaty, savory, fresh, wonderful. Medium+ body. Solid red/black fruit - although this is leaning hard into the meaty autumnal spectrum of secondary development. Tannins, while present, were well matched with acidity and remaining fruit. 13.5% - definitely from a different era/climate of the Southern Rhone. Hard to ask for more in an aged, old school CdP. Feral and delicious.

* Decanted 5 hours before serving, paired wonderfully with roast leg of lamb. I wouldn't normally decant, especially not for 5 hours, a 25+ year-old CDP that isn't considered an absolute top cuvée. But reading the recent reviews here convinced my to, at the very least, open this to breath well in advance. This is much more approachable than the 2000 that we had a couple of weeks back — it was open and ready for business with just a brief decant. The deep, expressive nose shows plenty of Mourvèdre character, and the palate features dark, dark fruit with soft but still-lively tannins and plenty of bite. 12/12. Really super right now. Essence of southern Rhone grenache. Garrigue and baked earth and raspberry. Then leather with a touch of wildness. Light, airy but substantial and fresh. None of the dead weight of many super-cuvées. Properly satisfying.

Tuesday night blinds : [Tasted Double Blind] This pours light garnet in the glass with medium bricking. ESTG Châteauneuf-du-Pape : Mmm, lavender, garrigue, wow, just love the garrigue. So spicy. With air getting a bit of iodine and band-aid, the full spice market on display though. Just love this, quite stern, medicinal. Old school.

Beautifully mature nose displaying ripe black fruit, blackberry jam, black cherry, licorice, strong tobacco and garrigue, rare steak, dark spices and earth. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of generous black fruit, rich and sweet, medium acidity and mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with tobacco at the end. This is drinking nicely.

Very clean fruit with no detectable VA. red to dark red in color. No oxidation noted. medium concentration and finish. drank well over several hours. Probable close to peak as there were plenty of secondary notes but fruit was still good.

This pours light garnet in the glass. Light bricking. The nose is immediately expressive, mature, open and complex. Aromas are of lightly dried plums, wet hay, grilled pork, old leather, slight olive notes, light pepper notes, bay leaf, ash, and lightly dried orange peel. The palate is light in body, featuring low tannin, medium acid, medium plus alcohol and a lovely red fruited note. There is only a hint of the porty/overripe notes that can dominate CdP. Beautiful!

PnP - didn’t think a 2006 needed a decant. My mistake. It started out all tannin, but opened up over the the next couple of hours. The tannins softened and an interesting and pleasant palate of flavors followed. Fruits, oak, licorice and earth with a dusty finish.

Great depth with a very meaty nose with a touch of black truffle. Some santal and dark fruit appear with a good breath. Lovely wine, a typical CDP with a good amount of mourvedre. The acidity is right there to counterbalance the richness and sweetness of the grenache: not heavy, not sweet beautiful wine for food. Bravo!

Dinner @ Entier : 13.5% Where can you get a 13.5% Cdp nowadays?! I had this with diy steak and goes perfectly well. Nice healthy Color with only a light rim. Leather, just the lightest touch of barn, sweet herbs, lavender, smoked bacon, roasted coffee, very deep and powerful in an indiscernible savory at the entry, complex mid palate, loaded with fruits but not flabby, well defined backbone, firm but ripe tannin. Really nice length with touch of espresso.

I suspect this may have had more depth a year or two ago but it was very good. Not too complex, but muted CdP flavors, subtle herbs, pretty light fruit, gentle tannins. If I had more of this which I don't I would drink up.

Very well stored bottle. Perfectly mature nose displaying ripe black fruit, blackberry liqueur, blackberry jam, licorice, garrigue, beef blood, lavender and earth. Very good concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich yet silky and polished, medium acidity and mineral, and a long sweet black fruit driven finish with licorice and tobacco at the end. This is big scale but traditional CDP.

Dark garnet. Beautiful nose. Well integrated aromas of fruit melange, cherries jubilee, and sweet well-integrated oak. Delicious and hard to put down. Gulpable. Great bottle.

It killed me to open this bottle tonight, but CT says it's drinking window has come and gone. I don't think 2018 was the end date, but I would say that this wine has about 1 more year left. A bit past prime in my view, but not too far over the hill. Lighter garnet turning lighter with tan hints at the edge. A slight raisin smell greets you but burns away in the first 15 minutes. Tannins largely gone at this time. With time, nose turns to pepper, saline, olive, and darker fruits. Well into secondary and tertiary flavors now and to the short side on the palate. Drink now.

A very posite surprise, vibrant, very cool for the vintage, a mineral feel here along with the sweet, lush fruit. Very elegant and bakanced. Wish I had more. In a sweet spot right now, if you don't hate primary fruit.

Purchased on release and professionally stored ever since. Very alive, with a healthy ruby red color; just a hint of lightening on the rim. Meaty, roasted plums, spice and fire pit. Still holding quit a bit of fruit. Delicious and drinking great with still some upside (for well stored bottles).

Another great bottle! This may be my favorite CdP. Velvet, savory texture with depth, layers of wild berry fruit, garrigue, and provencal herbs. No heat or over ripeness. There is a hint of dark fruit from the mouvedre in the blend, which I really like. Just a pleasure to drink and savor.

Decanted and drunk on a hot day straight from the cellar. Bright red fruit as soon as opened. Wonderful old French nose but still tight even after an hour in the decanter. Could use another 5 years and then should be very good for the next decade.

This bottle was more advanced and complex than the one I had in March. The color was a bit cloudy and there was less fruit on the palate than my last bottle, but more complexity and a smoother texture. A fine example of a late maturity CNP.

My only bottle, but this was drinking great tonight with leg and chops of lamb. Dense coloring with garnet edges. Aromas of dusty cherry, black tea, dry leaves, and lemon and orange peel. A little lavender and herb is showing as well. Medium body, good presence with a burst of acidity on the back end, long finish, and flavors of cherry, black tea, orange peel, lemon, and spice. Really solid showing.

Dark red color, pale around the edges. Expressive nose, with notes of dry earth. Plenty of fruit, quite concentrated for its age, some minerality and pepper, and a bit dry. A little rough for the vintage, but quite good. Seems sturdy enough to go a bit further.

Tasted with coworkers and friends. Soft and subtle, dried cherry, black tea leaves, extremely well integrated tannin and alcohol, seasoned salt and rubbed sage. Looks to be unfiltered, garnet red with an orange rim and dusty opacity. Drinking elegantly right now, but probably just starting to fade. Would consume any remaining bottles next few years.

Good wine but not great. Aged right, with a bit of funk initially, but with time some nice fruit emerged. Overall a bit simple, but enjoyable.
