Wines with porchetta (Chicago, IL) : A product of the vintage, this is quite ripe and with air a little bit of the roastedness of the fruit shows up. For my palate, amply resolved with plenty of autumnal, earthy notes, though the ripe vintage is able to bring enough fruit to keep this wine still feeling alive. Relatively soft structure and mostly resolved tannins. I've not been a huge fan of the 1990 vintage as the wines tend to be …

This was smooth , good cherry body , nice acid balance and good finish. I liked it really but looking at the currant market price i would always choose a mature Bordeaux instead !

PoB - Hubert Lignier Dinner, Clos de La Roche vertical 1976-2015 (Hong Kong) : Much warmer and sunnier than the 2012 and 1987 next to it. More licorice aromas, also some cooked fruit and good structure to support the fruit.

Served blind at the Domaine from a split. Nose of mature aged Burgundy. Big mushrooms and forest floor. Tons of complexity on the palate. This is why I love Burgundy wines.

Lunch at The Clove Club. Great restaurant, the tasting menu is fantastic, innovative dishes and delicious, definitely a must-go restaurant in London now, better than the Ledbury and the Square which both have Michelin 2 stars. The MSD 1er Cru still showing well despite its age, the hard nature of its origin also shows despite its age, not the smoothness aged burgundy. fading a bit toward the end of the long lunch. Enjoyable bottle. 91 pts.

A Few Bottles with a Casual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Gordon - Chicago IL) : Slightly corked. Good core of mature, ripe black fruit. Not the Domaine Lignier MSD 1er VV. This had a different looking label and might this have been a one-time negociant cuvee?

Nice nose of toasted oak, tomatoe vine and red berries. More berries and red licorice on the palate. Excellent acidity. Worked very well with duck cassoulet.

Some older Burgs (La Fève) : Nose had a red fruit and earth core that was spot-on and very pleasing, but there was also a meatiness and hint of roasted fruit that was a tad distracting. Though never sticking out, there was also a lingering hint of oak imparted suavity. On the palate, the roasted element was initially more obtrusive, but with time it settled down and the fruit became a little cleaner and fresher. The medium-weight mid-palate also shows …
